I've had an issue with serious acid reflux or whatever for awhile now. So much so that I generally have to avoid foods like onions, coffee and other things that if I intake too much will trigger chest pains and I'll have to take alka seltzer to calm it on down.

Anyway had a bad bout in the last few days where now it hurts to swallow food as it feels like perhaps the acid may have left the esophagus area a bit raw. So have to visit the doc tomorrow and potentially the end result is they'll probably have to stick a camera down there to look around which sounds horrible.

Any of you dudes deal with this shit? It's a drag for sure.

Eat more alkaline foods. I have begun starting out my morning with yogurt and fruit. I have consumed many chicken wings so yes, my stomach suffers from
Acidic foods.

Yeah try to avoid taking ppi medication if they prescribe it though. I got prescribed it because my oesophagus was irritated (they say if it's serious it can lead to ulcers and potential cancers) but I hadn't actually felt any bad reflux (had an endoscopy (camera down the throat) for other reason) and after taking them for a while if I stop I instantly have the worst reflux and burning stomach.

If they do prescribe ppi's I'd try and do a natural fix first and eliminate foods that may be causing it. I've tried to wean myself off them but if I go a day without one now it's just a constant burning all through my stomach/throat like I'm drinking boiling water or something wish i'd tried other things. They can also stop absorption of other vitamins too, I was low in magnesium after taking them and getting the worst back/neck/jaw spasms until I started taking tablets for that too. They work at stopping the reflux though.

The camera down the throat is fine though, don't worry about that. They knock you out and you wake up and it's not a problem at all.

I deal with this.

Drink a half cup of water with baking soda (and apple cider vinger if you want) every day in the morning and at night.

I was mostly worried about if they numb you up or knock you out for the camera down the throat. I'm pretty sure that's next. And I'll be keeping an ear open for any ppi meds as that sounds awful. I think I'm just at a place where I have to start acknowledging a real change in my diet.

Beer can cause it too if I have an evening of heavy drinking

I suffered through that in my 20s. I ate a lot of pizza and I suffered through that and none of the pepto type medicines gave me a definite relief.

My dad is a doctor and he recommended I take Omeprazole or Lansoprazole. But I remember that he determined that my case was maybe some kind of parasite or amoeba that would cause me to have that acid reflux reaction to those kind of foods like pizza and anything fatty and with tomatos, etc.
So he gave me I think Metronidazole in caplets and I have never suffered through that kind of acid reflux again thank God. Do your research about those and talk to your dr.

Good luck.

I had it really bad when I was younger. It's kinda like dormant now but I used to pretty much throw up at least 2-3 times a week. Always spitting up acid and all this kind of stuff.

What does drinking baking soda in water going to do? That sounds insane to me.

I had this problem. I cut down on all foods with high acidity.. such as orange juice - I have not touched orange juice in 4 years. I also cut back on spicy foods by limiting it.. I get very limited acid reflux now, 90% gone. I no longer take prevacid as I don't need it.

Btw, beer is acidic so that could be causing it too.

I should have it, literally everything I eat is spicy and I love OJ and shit like that. But I don't drink alcohol or soda so maybe that balances it out?

I eat crazy hot spicy foods, I even grow my own ghost peppers. I also drink lots of beer, coffee and sodas, and none of that phases me.

What got me, was when I decided to cut out soda and only drink water, cranberry juice and mango/pineapple juice. After about a month, I'd wake up at night to catch myself almost vomiting. It eventually got so bad my esophagus was inflamed, and it was painful to swallow. I was going to see a doctor but I talked to a nurse friend of mine who told me to take some Omeprazole and cut out the juices. That's what I did, and within a week all my problems were gone. That was the first and only time I have ever had acid reflux. It's more acidic foods that get you, not spicy ones.

Indeed avoid ppi medication. I took these for a while because I had bad acid reflux (slight problem with stomach valve, so I end up with oesophagus infections sometimes).

BUT most ppi medication can cause issues with kidneystones. Which I had two of, one down, one big one to go. And believe me, kindey stones >> acid reflux.

What helps me is to eat some fresh basilicum or few spoons of oatmeal (good luck) before going to bed. Sounds strange, but it helps.

my dad is also a doctor (internist), and taught me to combine acid-inhibitors with PPI's.

it works, i must say!

Heart burn right? My grandmother has it really bad. You should try eating ice cream maybe it'll help cool it down.

Its not just spicy foods. If you have it bad and need medication its likely the muscles arent working properly or there's another issue. Everyone gets a little heart burn now and then
