No hindsight, who do you take--the big fundamentally sound Euro or the high school kid with unlimited potential?

They say that when in doubt, take someone BIG, because size still MATTERS in the NBA.

So Im taking Lebron.

I guarantee you a young Sabonis had unlimited potential.

Or is this a white stereotype, like he can't possibly have potential and he can only be fundamentally sound.

Wut? No stereotype involved. Lebron was hyped as a can't miss, potential GOAT before he even stepped on an NBA court. More hyped than any player in history as far as I can recall.

Do I get sabonis in the NBA at 18? If that's the case I don't think you can pass on him. He was unreal once his knees were shot but him before the knees, just wow.

That's why I said no hindsight, meaning not knowing what we'll get from either player. Basically, both unproven players.

But at the time it was unlikely sabonis was coming to the US, so given that lebron, but if he is a sure thing to come after the draft then him. That is a huge factor in this.

Honestly, Lebron.

Shaq might be the only guy you take before Lebron in this situation.

Perhaps Duncan.

True, but in this scenario, Sabonis is available to come to the U.S. Both he and Lebron are available to be drafted. Both raw with potential.

Who do you take?

Sorry I wasn't clear about this before.

Can do everything at 7'3 and is more skilled than most guards. Unfair.

I would take Sabas (since no hindsight, and he was a more proven all-around monster than LBJ at 18) but it would have been a mistake, since he was almost never healthy. Lebron became a genuine superstar with few health issues.

However, if NBA drafted him and somehow was able to keep Sabas healthy (where Soviets failed), then things would have been really interesting.

I like this gif. He's able to get angry, then have enough sense to control his emotions.

Lebron was very hyped as a teenager, at 17, before he even entered the NBA. I'm not sure what the Sabonis level of hype before he was drafted. But judging by his skills at his size, not knowing about how things will turn out, or future injuries... you take Sabonis.

Well at 17 Sabonis already was owning the highest competition possible unless he left soviet union. Everyone would of drafted Sabonis over anyone ever at that point and that being mistake or not depending on his health if he was to play in the US.

No hindsight, I go with Sabonis. That size is impossible to turn down. Who knows how his career might have developed had he been allowed to play over here before 89?

We already know what LeBald is capable of. Take you to the finals and will lose, and then leave to construct a more stacked team. Sabonis at least has some untapped potential and would probably be better than LeBald if he were moulded in an NBA setting.

Current Sabonis is better than Spanoulis ever was, that's all that really matters.
