The amazing thing is that he couldn't even average 30 ppg in an era where the highest number of guys EVER averaged 30 ppg.

There were about TEN 30 point scorers in the 2000's.. But somehow, Melo wasn't one of them.. :confusedshrug:

So there's no way he would've averaged 30 ppg in the 90's either, since there were only TWO 30 point scorers in the 90's.

Of course, the 90's didn't have spacing - defenders were bunched up and in closer proximity - without spacing, help defenders were simply CLOSER than today's game..

In addition to no spacing, there was legal hand-checking and paint-camping.. A triple-whammy.

He got close enough.

28.9-ppg in 2007 --- (4th year player)
28.2-ppg in 2010
28.7-ppg in 2013 --- (28.8 in 13 game playoff run)

He also averaged 30.7-ppg in the 2010 playoffs albeit over only 6 games.

@3ball : Jordan didn't even come close to averaging 25-ppg in the early 00's despite chucking for all he was worth.
Couldn't handle that hand-checking + zone era.

You missed a bunch because your research skills are apparently piss poor.

Here's a list of 30 ppg scorers in the 2000's:

Durant 2010
Wade 2009
Lebron 2008
Kobe 2007
Kobe 2006
Iverson 2005
McGrady 2003
Iverson 2002
Iverson 2001
Shaq 2000

That's 7 different players, compared to only 2 players in the 90's... The 60's had 8 players.. So today's era equates with the 60's regarding ease of dropping 30.

A decade is 10 years... So either 2000 or 2010 counts.

Regardless, it was way easier to score 30 ppg in the 2000's, just about as easy as the 60's...

Whereas much harder in the 90's, obviously.

First of all,

no shit a decade is ten years. But two thousand and TEN is NOT part of the TWO THOUSANDS, it's part of the TWO THOUSAND TENS. You included bot in a attempt to bolster tour argument, while also giving Shaq a 30 PPG season he never had unless you round up.

Also, maybe there just weren't as many good scorers in the 90s...

Lack of skilled competitors.

What an arbitrary cut off as well.

The facts are as is:
-There were more efficient wing scorers during MJ's time than now.
-This is mainly due to more lax basketball, and poorer defenses.

Jordan played during a time when Dale Ellis was putting up 28ppg on 50% shooting. Am I supposed to look at Jordan's 32ppg on 52% as far and away better, and compare it directly to today's scorers?

Curry this season is as impressive as any Jordan season in the 80's offensively.

It was apparently "easy" to score 30 PPG in the 80s, doe.

George Gervin
World B. Free
Adrian Dantley
Bernard King
Dominique Wilkins
Michael Jordan

HEY LOOK ANOTHER DECADE WITH MORE 30 PPG SCORERS THAN THE 2000S

RRR3
12-30-2015, 03:31 AM
In fact, the 70's ALSO had more 30+ PPG scorers than the 2000s did.

Jerry West
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Tiny Archibald
Bob McAdoo
Rick Barry
Pete Maravich

And this is with guys like Dr. J spending a lot of the decade in the ABA.

Yeah...but all that bitch Jordan was capable of in the 2000s was 22.9ppg...on 22.1 shots per game. I'm pretty sure Nick Young right now could put up 22.9ppg if you let him launch up 22.1 shots a game...hell even Kobrick could find his way to doing this, this season if he wanted.

His strongest opponent, Drexler, is equivalent to DeRozan of this era.

Why don't you list his competition during his championship runs?
Then I would have to do the same for Kobe, Lebron, etc.... It's just not necessaary..

For one, we already know Lebron's competition was far worse in the Leastern Conference - Lebron has defeated literally ONE THIRD the 50-win teams (http://i.imgur.com/yz8FH5x.jpg) as MJ and Kobe and gets a free pass to the Finals every year.

I already listed all the best wings from MJ's career and they match today's era man-for-man and are superior overall..

That's more than sufficient.

There was no year zero. Jesus was born on year 1. That means 2001 was the new millennium, which also means the new decade.

Also, God started creation on Day 1, not Day 0.
