Not shocking one bit. Guys like Fish get by for their ability to motivate and galvanize a group of men but to be a great NBA coach, you need to be a very good Xs and Os guy. This is especially apparant come playoff time where coaches make adjustments after every game. Fish always struck me as a motivating type, not the intellectual type.

I remember my first year as a head coach. I knew how to run the offensive and defensive systems pretty well, but there were times in practice when I had to fake it. Players pick up on any kind of indecisiveness very quickly. If the players don't think you know your system 100%, they won't give you 100%. It wasn't until the end of my 2nd season of coaching that I felt like I really had the reins, and all my guys believed in the system and their roles.

Dude played the game for 20 years and his office is down the hall from Phil Jackson's.

How could you not know your X's and O's at this point?

But seriously, just knowing the system doesn't prepare you to teach the system. Teaching (coaching) is a skill of its own.

What?

Calderon is an underwhelming but solid pure point guard. Afflalo was dirty on the Nuggets and is still a very good, capable player.

then Carmelo/Porzingis who are above average players at their position and a true 7' rim protector in Robin Lopez?

How is that a shit roster? They have enough talent. Just like the Kings they are underachieving like crazy but don't kid yourself the talent is missing.

When you look at where everyone on the roster was a year ago it is indeed a pretty shit roster

Im giving credit to Fisher for being able to win a good number of games with this fast food team.
