Who would you pick ? Randle has been a double double machine lately. Marcus is a nice defender.

Julius Randle.

Right now Randle.
Smart's shooting percentages are surprisingly worse than Randle's

I guess 2 double-doubles in the last 7 games (almost 2 weeks) equals a double-double machine now?
In the end, my pick is Marcus Smart. He fits better traditionally on almost any team and has the ability to turn into a 3&D starter in the league. Players that work as hard as him that play as good of perimeter defense has he does are a more rare breed than Julius Randle.
The thing that bothers me about Randle is he handles the ball way too much and settles for a PF. 42% for a PF just isn't going to cut it, even if Smart is shooting sub-40% at least he's going to provide that tough perimeter defense.

He's averaging 11.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg essentially as a rookie. Its not absurd to say he'll be a double double machine :oldlol:

Marcus - 26 mins, 8.9 PPG, .333 FG, .239 3PT, .697 FT, 3.5 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.5 STL
Julius - 27 mins, 11.5 PPG, .415 FG, .333 3PT, .667 FT, 9.5 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.8 STL

they both are just okay but smart has more impact on the game so him.
undersized 4s that can't shoot or defend the rim or play defense at all in today's nba are kinda gross

Randle. Smart looks like he will be a strong defender off the bench at best. He can't shoot or play make as your guard. Can't finish at the rim either.
Randle will be a double double machine. His rebound rate is one of the best in the league. He needs to develop a shot though. His 3 ball looks better than his midrange due to his release and arc.

I think the same. Randles going to look good in sime mismatch situations and bad to average in the majority of others. I like smarts all round both ends game more

yeah just seems like someone you can really take advantage of on both ends.

Smart has only played 11 games this season, and the past 2 games he has come back he has only played about 10 minutes due to minute restriction.
I havent watched much of Randle this season, but I really like Smart. Good defender, smart offensive player, and a average offensive game.
Not to mention smart is on a team trying to win playing at a position they are deep at and in a structured system with an established coach

Haven't watched much of Randle, but he really impressed me against the C's. He could put the ball on the floor and blow by his defender to get to the rim and finish pretty well. Pretty reliable jumper as well.
Smart's a great defender but still has time to polish his offensive game. Tough call for me. can't go wrong with either one.

Too early to say. Both have very good upside. But I'm glad we have Randle. He is a rare blend of size, power and athleticism. He is still raw and makes so many mental errors but the talent is there if he can polish up his game along with relentless, non-stop motor which is always a huge plus.
Smart seems to be the type who might be a 10-12 year vet given his solid NBA type body, strength, athleticism, ability to defend and tenacity. If he adds offense, that's just icing on the cake.

Smart's percentages are awful. Safe to say those will go up.
He's generally considered a 35% 3pt shooter isn't he? Players like him are always helpful. Players like Randle are almost always liabilities that never really find a place on a successful team. We'll see if he can carve out a niche for himself - 6th man Kenneth Faried type snatching up rebounds on both ends, perhaps - but Smart's the safer choice.

Yes, Smart is the safer choice but to already say Randle will most likely be a liability is laughable. It's way to early to judge. But he has shown that the potential is there. His issue is he needs to improve his bball iq and feel for the game. That's coachable. His size, power and athleticism aren't.

he has a point. in today's game you want your 4 to either be able to hit the 3 ball or defend the rim, randle doesn't do either. in a playoff series a weakness on both ends like that is easily exploitable.

People are overrating the defense of pointguards. I wanted Smart when the draft happened but his shooting percentages are abysmal and he already has a season + under his belt. Im happier with Randle, hes a rare breed with a ridiculous motor and I am confident he will improve his shot because you can see improvements and he has a crazy work ethic. He already looks to be improving in all of his weaknesses; things like passing out, finishing with his weak hand etc.
