It's pretty amazing how celebrated presidents are, for basically being glorified ambassadors who occasionally sign things put in front of them that their advisers and donors have told them are ok to sign. Not just talking about Barry, but all Presidents. Just smile and wave and provide soundbites. And people go crazy about meeting these dudes and protecting them etc.

I don't find it shocking. Got to remember these people are leaders. Their the highest powers in the world. Think about civilization before we had governments. People governed themselves. We came a far way, in both politics and technology.

Great point.
I just find it crazy the car seems old fashion. Nothing really fancy. But reason being the president shouldn't be driving in a car far superior to the people below him.

Wonder if it'll withstand a direct hit from a bazooka.

Wow, I wonder what they are trying to compensate for.
I don't get the steel plate. What's it really for? I can't see it being that low to the ground to prevent a grenade

IED? Those thigs are all over the road in iraq but maybe they just want to cover their bases.
I bet that steel plate saved the car from damage to critical drivetrain components when it high centered in that video you posted. Off road dudes will put steel plates all over their undercarriage to avoid damaging the transmission or transfer case when they go over tough objects.

Yes. (http://www.businessinsider.com/presidential-limo-the-beast-used-during-inauguration-2013-1)
At a cost of over $300,000 and enough armor to stop an RPG, the President's ground vehicle is a very resilient ride.
It looks like a Caddy STS on the outside, but on the inside it has everything the Secret Service needs to protect their boss from threats he may face on the road.
