View Full Version : Kobe is the better all around player than Lebron. Perception vs Reality

Rebounding:
pound for pound kobe is the better rebounder
6-9, 260 pound power forward that can play center averaging 7 rebounds
vs
6-5, 205 pound shooting guard that can play small forward averaging 6 rebounds
Passing
player leads 5 Title teams in Assists as his teams main point guard ( 3rd to only Pippen and Cousy )
vs
player leads 2 Title teams in Assists as his teams main point guard ( costing 4 of his 6 opportunities by trying to manufacture assists instead of getting them in the flow of the game )
Defense
player has the All time most 1st team all defensive nominations
vs
player misses both all defensive teams in his absolute prime and is stuck on 5 nominations
teammate
when Kobe was faced with the option of being 2nd leading man. he accepted it. hes stuck with one team his entire career. all his teammates today have nothing but praise. leading by example and hard work. pushing and teaching everyone around him on how to grow. all his teammates have their best years with him
vs
when lebron was faced with the option of being 2nd leading man. he sabotaged the nba finals by refusing to play on either end. throwing the series and wades chances at a 2nd finals mvp. he would rather lose than win at all cost.... and hes ditched his friends/teammates twice already. leaving ex teammates with nothing but negativity towards him till this day.. leading by way of dwight howardism. basically joking around and having fun. not helping others. all his teammates have their worst years with him
so it isnt just scoring, dropping 50's, 60's, 80's etc...
kobe is legitimately the better all around player. sometimes stats dont tell the whole story

Both dominant and won majority of rings whilst the leader of their team

I think a better comparison is Shaq vs LeBron
Both dominant and won majority of rings whilst the leader of their team
both quitters, ring chasers, bad teammates, joke around, hog fmvps and dont let teammates get any spot light. would rather sabotage and drive people away than let others shine. dominating with bodies instead of skills, sucking at free throws
everythings pretty similar aside from lebron not being nearly as good in the finals or at rebounding the way he should

Isnt Kobe almost 6'7 235 pounds runs faster and jumps higher than any player in NBA History??
Why does he only average 5 rebounds a game in his career? Why did LeBron average 11 the whole playoffs last year and 13 rebounds in the finals?

even if you go by 18 year old lebron who wasnt even finished growing. he was still 6-8, 240 to prime kobe ( who that year was weight training for longer 3 point shooting and climbed to 220 pounds. and yes when kobe had hair he was closer to 6-6 but his wife measured him in his bald head with no shoes at 6-5
the fact is lebron went on a roid raging hgh binge for a decade and began playing power forward halfway through his career.. now hes at a size and in an era where center isnt out of the question for him
hes legitimately been weighed at 260
so your stupid rookie picture reference is utterly useless
:oldlol:
even you know deep down that lebrons career rebounding average should be around 9-10 per game
kobes 5-6 rebounds is good. lebrons average isnt. period

I always thought Kobe was better at every single facet of the game. This all around cliche BS was just Bran padding stats.
Lol... as far as talent / individual basketball ability / impact goes (how it translates with impact upon what he has to work with around him) the better comparison for lebron is jordan or shaq... but kobe? There is around 20-30 players ive seen who were definitely more talented, arguably more...
As far as allround ability i have not seen anything like lebron... perhaps pippen, but lebron was pippen on steroids

The passing one in particular is the dumbest argument I've ever heard.
And Jordan led the 91 and 93 Bulls in APG in the playoffs.
AND Lebron led 2 title teams in rebounds. Kobe led 0.

I'm not interested about accolades . Young Kobe was really great on defence . But I don't think after 2002 Kobe(2003-2007) was great on defence . Kobe focused on scoring at his between 23 to 27 . Lebron was better individual defensive player in his 23 to 27 .
I wasn't talked about spesific forms of the game . I talked about necessary forms , post skills or being clutch doesn't about who is more all around .

Neither player is clutch when it really matters so we can throw that out the window.
kobe is far more skilled than bron but kobe's mentality was a gift and a curse. Kobe probably should have been even better which is difficult to say about someone who is already great but his ego did cost him at times throughout his career. Kobe has said as much over the last few years

Checking off whose better by each category doesn't work because Kobe has no critical weaknesses anywhere that can be exploited at highest levels of competition like Lebron has.
Like, Lebron is better at finishing at the rim, but Kobe was no slouch there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQmbW7xicTs)..
And while Kobe is one of the best midrange players of all time, and an excellent shooter, Lebron is abysmal at this portion of the game. So it can be exploited.
You cant exploit Kobe anywhere.. you let him drive? He can smash on dpoy level big men. You let him shoot? Hes draining it from any spot. Only Kobe can beat Kobe.. with his own selfishness at times.
With Lebron you can just sag off, and dare him to shoot. He will either shoot like absolute shit (2007, 2013, & 2015) or he'll take his pedal off the gas to preserve efficiency (2014 & 2011). The only Finals Lebron didn't have a major shooting slump/mental breakdown was against the young, poorly coached Thunder who he only had full confidence towards because its like facing your little brother.. and because KD couldn't stop his penetration for the life of him.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the fact LeBron has the basketball in his hands as much as he does, while teams give him space to shoot (even DARING him to) - because he cant - is a huge detriment to his teams success and their ability to fully function.
Weak jumper, no inbetween game, and monopolizing possessions like he's a pointguard? Dude couldn't be more overrated.

I agree.. but I was talking about what defenses have control over. Defenses cant control whether kobe goes off the rails or not.. he either does it or not. Its not in their control. Stopping Lebron is very much in their control.

This abject idiocy is why everyone laughs when you walk by.
Kobe, over the entirety of his career and the 175,000+ possessions he has played, is a well below average defender.
https://sites.google.com/site/rapmstats/97-14-rapm-2
His accolades? So does the fact that he is going to start the All Star Game make him a top 10 player this year?
Clutch? Are you for serious??

Only thing Lebron is better than Kobe is the fact that he's a more willing passer. Kobe is just as good a passer. an elite passer for his position and style of play.
Rebounding has more to do with size and position, guards play guard the perimeter, Forwards play inside. During free throws, guards protect fast breaks were forwards stand on the free throw line due to size.

What kind of crap is this. "Kobe could average just as many assists if he wanted".
Kobe doesn't have the court vision or playmaking ability of Lebron. Lebron has the will to create his own shot and use that to get a teammate and open look. Kobe doesn't have that kind of vision. Just stop.
And the rebounding bs is an excuse. Kobe is a guard, why he have more assists? Kobe is a shooting gaurd, why isn't he the better 3 pt shooter or average more points? Size has a lot to do with it but it's not an excuse. (ex. Rodman).
Lebron is the better scorer, passer, rebounder, playmaker, teammate, more clutch, and more effecient.
Kobe has better footwork, is a better natural shooter, midrange, and arguably more skill. That's about it.

For perimeter players who combined great scoring, great all around ability, and freak athletic ability the best, this is the Mt. Rushmore:
MJ
Kobe
Bron
Wade
So Kobe was a great all around player. But Bron is THE BEST all around player of all time. I think ANYTIME u are great scorer, a great triple double threat, and a great defender in one, it sets u apart in the all around argument. Bron's DOMINANCE with that kind of package gives him the edge on Kobe in the all around argument.

Lebron will retire with more points/rebounds/assists/steals/blocks than Kobe, and higher FG% as well.
