View Full Version : Let's talk about Melo now being an elite defender

Or at least on the brink of that title. Phil/Fisher have got him totally committed on that end and it's noticeable every night. He just took a huge shit on both Green and Kawhi on the same possession. :applause:

It just shows he could of been a good defender in his career if he put his mind to it.

He's also have his worst offensive season in years. Could the energy he's expanding on the defensive end be partly why he's fallen off on the other side of the floor?

He's gotten better. It may be too late for the Phil Jackson effect though since he's in his 30s. Phil got Shaq around 28 and improved him into a great team/individual player. Pre-2000 Shaq wasn't nearly as good as 2000-2003 Shaq was in terms of dominance and winning titles.

Melo has definitely gotten better as an all around player this year. I just hope that Affalo and Porzingis can help him on every night in terms of offense. It's good we don't rely on Melo dropping 25+ a night in order to have a chance to win.

Are you kidding? LOL

He's being shit on this whole game, he sucks on offence and defense.

He's basically become Carmelo Harden, does nothing but play for fouls.

Such a joke

You idolize a manufactured star that would be badly exposed outside of Pop's system. GTFO.

He isn't elite but he has stepped up. It's also nice to have a 7 footer roaming the paint

He has 59 ISO possessions, which isn't a lot but is enough to make a good enough sample size and scores 1.08ppp

Melo has far more ISO possessions but scores 0.93ppp

77 post up possessions where he scores 1.06ppp

Same story

How exactly is an excellent shooter, a good ISO a post up player that has great ball movement and the best perimeter defense in the league gonna get exposed?

elite? He looks great because his bigs and sg are elite defenders who can make up his mistakes. He doesn't have to worry about his man blowing by him because porzingis or lopez will take care of it.

Elite?...:facepalm He's been average at best...not being terrible like in the past doesn't mean he's been elite.

Whats with people though?

A player has literally 1 or 2 good defensive plays, and people feel the need to tell the world they're elite.

When its known they're not.

I suspect we were trying to take the spotlight off his terrible offense tbh

He's stepped up his D this year, dunno about elite. It helps when you have capable big men that can block shots.

He is shooting badly tonight, but it's true...more energy given on defense means less available on offense.

Apart from post-oriented defense, he's hardly been anything beyond above-average as a peak-value defender. :biggums:

been doing it all year bro, and he pretty much locked up kawhi the only buckets he got were off offensive rebounds.

He has been at times, media blows out of proportion how bad his d has been throughout his career.

Anyone feel like this dude would be furious even if a million dollars landed on his front door step.

Dude is the new Mathius of the forum. No one cares that you hate everything. Don't post if you're just gonna write like you're having an angry jerk in every thread.

Aren't you Australian anyway? Even if you're on the dole over here you have a good life.

Kawhi needed 19 shots to score 19 points. Melo needed 15 to score 20. I know it's not that simple, but STFU already.

Not to mention melo was a +3 and kawhi was -4, by all rights knicks and Melo deserved the w.

he could have been top 10 all-time if he worked out in the offseason or atleast did drugs like Wade and Bron.

he too busy going fishing tho

And you do? If you can't see that Kawhi wouldn't be the same player offensively in a different system then YOU sir are blind. 50% from 3? that ain't happening anywhere else.
