View Full Version : Best basketball equivalent of a team self-destructing like the bengals just did?

It doesn't have to be a full series, just one playoff game, has a team ever shot themselves in the foot in a manner as bad as what just happened in the bengals/steelers game?

No one has self destructed like THAT. Maybe Clippers to Rockets is the closest.

1999 playoff game when the Bills lost to Titans after taking 1pt lead with a FG with 16 seconds left and then let the Titans win the game on a kickoff return:facepalm

If we're including football, nothing will ever top the Seahawks in last years Super Bowl. That was the textbook definition of self-destruction

Dude no way. It was a bad playcall in a close game, sure. I can see why you'd say that considering that game was the big one. But in terms of pure melting down...

This Bengals game was something else.

TD to take the lead, then get the pick, 1:40 left in the game.

RB fumbles the damn ball.

Burfict RETARD penalty on Antonio Brown to the head on a clearly-uncatchable ball AND a late hit personal foul for 15 yards.

Pacman Jones shoving a Steeler coach another foul to make it a 30 yard chip shot FG. The steelers didn't do ANYTHING to force the errors or win it. That's much, much worse than a stupid pass playcall, but more than that, an INCREDIBLE play by Malcolm Butler to intercept the ball.

I don't disagree bro, the Bengals did more to self destruct than the Seahawks did. But when considering the stakes, that this was a wildcard game compared to the Super Bowl, and all you have to do is call 1 or 2 handoffs with a running back named Beast Mode to gain 1 yard and you win the ****ing Super Bowl, instead you inexplicably throw a quick slant pass into the middle of the field to your 4th WR....

I don't know, I'll probably be in the minority on this one, since technically what the Bengals did was worse, but comparing a wildcard game to having the Super Bowl all but sewn up but literally throwing it away for NO reason, I still gotta go with the Seahawks if you factor in the stakes. I'll never get over that playcall, and I'm not even a Seahawks fan :lol

It wasn't so much a choke as it was a meltdown, if there's a distinction between the two. Cinci was down 15 in the fourth and came back. Now that fumble to give Pitt the ball back was terrible, but it was right after Pitt gave them the ball on their first play... Two chokes = ?

What happened after that fumble was stuff of legend doe. Basically handed Pitt the win.

Yeah, gotcha. If you weight by the stakes at hand, then I'm not sure anything can surpass the Seahawks loss.
