How did ROTY voters pass on him? What?
Any good explanation?

Because he sucked
7.6/1.9/1.3 on .41 FG%
But you know what? He fought his way to become a Top 10 player of all-time by working hard. That's a lesson we all should learn

He had a really mediocre rookie season. Granted for a 15th overall pick, his stats aren't all that bad. He was also an 18 year old who was stuck on the depth chart between two all star guards in Eddie Jones (he was a very similar athlete to rookie Kobe too, just more experienced and a better player at the time) and Van Exel (he played PG and Kobe never was really a PG so he was kind of stuck in rotation).
I'm sure no one saw Kobe's rookie season and said, I can see this guy drop 80+ points in one game.

Yes he is
Its not because he worked hard that many idiots consider him top 10. He is considered top 10 by retards such as yourself because of circumstance. Put any above average swingman on those laker teams and they also win 5 rings.

Per 36min he averaged 18ppg, 4rpg, 3apg, 2spg on 42%fg's, 38% threes, 82% ft's
for a 17 year old thats phenomenal
he wasnt mediocre in any way shape or form. he just played 15 minutes per game and did a great job while he was in there

He has 14 superstar years. That's why he is in the Top 10

He has a great case due to longevity. But he was never dominant. Even his best season doesnt match up to an average season for most ATGs. His impact on winning the dam game for his team is just does not match up. Someone like Charles Barkley or Karl Malone >> Kobe.

RS Malone > RS Kobe
but Playoffs Kobe clearly > Playoffs Malone, that's why Kobe is over Malone.
Barkley was a defensive liability for the entirety of his career, unlike Kobe.
Also, Kobe definitely was a dominant offensive player, for 14 years

He didn't win it because the lack of playing time.
At least we can all agree that if he was given playing time...he would have won it.
Rookie of the year isn't a big award.

And that lack of playing was due to him and his camp saying Kobe would play/sign with the Lakers only. They were already a contender and knew he would ride the pine, instead of starting ahead of Eddie Jones.
If he would have let the Nets draft him with the 8th pick overall like they wanted to, he would have gotten the playing time and a chance at ROY......but he took the easy way with LA instead of trying to build a contender with NJ.

Not enough PT.. came off the bench on a veteran squad. Plus Del Harris hated him. Worked his way to a starting spot and a superstar. Earned not given.

First Guard ever drafted outta HS in NBA history IIRC....2nd player drafted outta HS in over 20 years.
it was a diffrent time/era..HS - Pro players were not expected to play much..especially guards.

Bron had extra treatment from his rookie year on. Melo was clearly better, more ppg and more rpg with more wins for his team. ROBBERY
