i remember jordans last game in LA..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSaKPHSEtRM
no pre or post game hooplah
i think its due to "the boy who cried wolf" type story in which jordans retirements werent taken seriously or nobody cared due to his 2 previous cries for attention

and then this
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/877hIB3oCW8/hqdefault.jpg
it got to the point where they wouldnt even host a retirement press conference for him. just a post game interview to say goodbye

and by the end of lebrons career he will have better stats than either of kobe or jordan
that isnt how we judge talent or their popularity

Because he was focused on trying to drag his terrible team to the playoffs while putting up 20/6/4/2 (45% FG) at age 40.
He may have gone the 'farewell tour' route if he was the worst player in the league on the last seeded team in his conference ala Beans.
Also, I thought you retired Kenny. Jeff let you back in the fold even after your meltdown weird porno thread?

ummm what
:lol
washington was 37-45 ...
the yankees were 84-78 and jeter still got a send off all year. his team was fighting for the playoffs too
and since when does that stand in the way of fan appreciation?
:oldlol:
even if the lakers had an ok record. kobe would still be getting this treatment had he said this was his last season
just admit the fact that fans didnt care about jordan in 2003
allstar voting shows this

The Wizards finished as the 9th seed and were sitting at 34-37 after 71 games before falling apart at the end of their season. Jordan was doing as a broken down 40 year old what a prime Melo is doing now with an infinitely better squad.
And Jordan at 40>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bean at 37.
Kobe is literally the worst player in the league today and his team is the worst in the conference. All he has left is his jerk off 'farewell tour' where he bends over for other teams while shooting 30-something %.
His all star votes count as much as when Yao was leading in votes in seasons he didn't even play. It's a complete joke. :lol

you people take every single thing thats positive towards kobe and say it doesnt count. then discount it for the rest of humanity
every time any big name guy has praised kobe people will turn it around and say "theyre just being nice"
now praise for a player is a sign of fans not respecting a guy enough. but just enough to do something for someone that isnt the best
really?
:oldlol:
did derek jeter "NEED" anything from the fans to validate his career?
no lol
its just appreciation and respect for someone they never thought theyed see go and now realize itel never be the same without them around
back when jordan was retiring every other year people didnt really mind because they were honestly just sick of jordan
jordan was shoved down their throats like lebron james was to this generation
nobody was sad to see him go because they wanted a new guy to love and hate
but with kobe they know there isnt any suitable replacements. and the hatred for kobe is so great that people dont have a clue how to direct those feelings anywhere else
this is also why lebron wont get much of a send off. people were sick of him by 2011.

Kobe being the leading vote-getter for the all-star game shows how much of a farce it is, just as it was in 2003 when MJ didn't get voted in. Kobe isn't an all-star caliber player this year, in fact until a few weeks ago he was pretty much embarrassing himself.
MJ in 2003 was a legit all-star player, and it was no shame in losing to Tmac and Iverson, who were at the apex of their careers and popularity. He was legitimately one of the top 20 players in 2003, and the coaches voted him in as a reserve proving they felt the same, whereas the 93rd ranking Kobe received by ESPN to start the year has been proven to be generous. If you were a fan of the game and not so much a stan, you'd realize how embarrassing it is that Kobe will likely be taking the spot of someone like Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, or Demarcus Cousins, far better players and far more deserving of a starting spot.

the allstar game is a game about stars that fans vote on based on who their favorite players are
kobe is a star. infact hes the most popular star in the nba
nowhere on the allstar ballot does it say "vote based on the top performers in the nba"
it just says "vote for your 2016 nba allstars"
we've had Magic Johnson make it. we've had wizards jordan make it without even getting enough votes
there was no fuss about them. but the minute its about kobe then all hell breaks loose
if you want a nomination for performance then go look up the all nba teams... notice michael jordan couldnt even make 3rd team all nba back in 2002 or 2003
because he sucked
notice lebron didnt make any all defensive team last year?
because he sucked
so go based on that shit and you wont have a problem

I know that the starting spots are voted on popularity. Kobe's not the first un-deserving star, nor the last. I actually don't have a problem with him voted a starter, but that doesn't mean I can't comment that ultimately it's a popularity contest and a farce. You're the one who felt it necessary to make a thread bragging about his selection. If you were truly a fan of Kobe, you'd be embarrassed for him how he's played. In fact, a few weeks ago when he was stinking it up, you had pretty much committed harakiri from Kobe's play. He's had a few games shooting above 40% recently, so I guess we can owe that to your resurfacing.
As for MJ sucking in 2002 he was at 25/6/5 on 42% and getting MVP talk for having the Wizards in the playoff race, before he had to shut down for the year due to knee injury. But you already knew that.

As I posted earlier in that thread (with links) - Jordan had his farewell, and he didn't asked for All-Star spot, a players like AI offered him theirs but he refused. It is just before the start of the game, when VC said to MJ go, and than he would stay on the bench.
Probably you are too young, but posting garbage and false facts would not make your favourite player better. Kobe was a great player, but he is no way better than Jordan. And you can't prove it anyway.
So please relax and accept the simple fact that Kobe is not the best ever or better than Mike (which is the same for a lot of people).
Kobe more popular than MJ in Europe and China :lol - 15 years ago MJ was probably the most recognizable athlete in the world. But even if someone is more popular it doesn't meen that he is the better player - and for me the popularity rating has zero meaning as we are still discusing basketball.

Being in LA helps. Wearing the same jersey, fans forget that he's not the same guy he was in 2010. If he were in Memphis or Toronto, he wouldn't be getting these votes.
It also helps that there is no player out there taking his place. If there were a "next Kobe" capturing fans' imagination right now, he'd be getting those votes. But James Harden is not that guy; and his team is losing.
Obviously Curry is going to get votes, but can you blame people for voting nostalgia instead of settling for Russell Westbrook?
Also OP is not being totally honest here. There was a bit of a farewell tour for Mike. I was a hometown Wiz fan at the time. He sold out every game, home and away. If he lit up the Knicks or Cavs, people would say, "Classic Jordan. It's like back in the 90s, when we actually feared him." Going .500 with Christian Laettner and Jerry Stackhouse; he was just a sideshow. Also he was injured a lot if I remember correctly. His first year back he started off scoring 25 a night but then got hurt. His second year he wasn't nearly as effective, and Tmac was lighting up the league both years. And of course Allen Iverson had starting PG locked up just like Curry does now.

Yao got the most of All-Star voting, and we all know the reason why.
Of course bein a basketball legend in LA helps, the celebrity status, the popularity and so on.
Anyway if you are good enough you could still be an All-Star regardless of the fans vote/love.

Not to forget that MJ is still being celebrated. Just a few years ago he got a ' MJ at 50' special . He had been retired for 10 years at that point. Steph Curry? People are talking about how he compares offensviely to MJ, not Kobe. He' s STILL the standard by which players are being measured.

The Jordaneers seem to be missing the whole point and resort to defending "who's better"
It's the Brett Favre effect. Each retirement was less impact full due the the constant returning which lead to having less interest. There wasn't a proper closure, then it just became a novelty.

No. Not here and not at any place I visited. The Jumpman by itself has more brand notoriety than anything Kobe and there are enough people, who still love Jordan and enough youngsters, who think he's the best just watching him from tape.
Jordan had no selfproclaimed farewell tour, but watch his last game or his last game at Chicago.
MJ also never got MVP chants during games while shooting FTs.

there goes that dumb f*g kenneth making *hit up again.
first of all, right before tipoff, carter got the mic and said he's giving up his spot for jordan but jordan declined.
second, the gap in wordwide popularity is even bigger than the gap between their achievements, which means its *ucking huge. jordan is among only a few athletes that transcends the boundaries of sports. jordan was a cultural phenomenon that joins the likes of ali and pele, probably even bigger. even before the age of the internet, his popularity somehow reached rural parts of 3rd world countries. little kids in the middle of nowhere could be seen running around in jordan jerseys. you could tell anyone in the world that so and so is the michael jordan of their profession and they would know what it means.
kobe is only basketball popular, and its only really high because the market has expanded, specifically to china. but outside basketball his name isnt that big. it may get thrown around here and there but it will not be talked about with the same reverence as MJ.

Neither can I.
There are a few explanations, but just one that probably makes sense - and that's the fans vote "changing". Back then fans were smarter and really ONLY voted for actual all stars, production wise.
Once they got wind of chinese/asian fanbois rigging the system (Yao Ming) that was the tipping point. :lol

It wasn't close to what Kobe's received in attention. Dude is being awarded sh*t before every game he plays. :oldlol: Jordan got the standing ovations, but Bean is getting that AND more.

Why is that odd? For one, Vince got voted in at forward( and wasn't really having a good season). AI was extremely popular at that point, and Tmac was getting major press as the league's leading scorer, and was building a legion of fans in this own right. There was no shame in losing to either and if anything, had Jordan outvoted those guys that should have been a worrying sign for the league that a 40 year old fading star got more votes than two dynamic talents in their primes. It's really not a good thing that Kobe is going to get more votes than Durant, Griffin, Cousins, and Davis. Those guys are going to be carrying the league for the next decade along with Westbrook, Harden and Curry.

2. Allen Iverson 1,155,897
3. Michael Jordan 1,082,909
He got the 4th most votes at the guard spot in both conferences, the only ones ahead of him were Kobe, Iverson, and Tmac, who rightfully should have been ahead.Incidentally, he was voted in as a substitute by the coaches, so not sure what you mean by the coaches didn't vote for him.

Evey game was broadcast as "MJ's last game in ___" or "MJ's last game vs. ____". There was just as much if not even more attention around MJ's retirement than there is Kobe. Did anyone here even watch basketball back then?
Sometimes I wonder. I used to be the young guy. How can you not have been around for Iverson, Yao, or MJ's comeback? It baffles the mind. How can people be younger than me?!
But seriously, if you don't have any knowledge about something so recent, why post? It's one thing if you're arguing about Oscar Robinson, who almost nobody has seen play. But Wizards MJ's last season? Anyone who was 10 or older at the time remembers it clearly. You can't BS that.

there goes that dumb f*g kenneth making *hit up again.
first of all, right before tipoff, carter got the mic and said he's giving up his spot for jordan but jordan declined.
second, the gap in wordwide popularity is even bigger than the gap between their achievements, which means its *ucking huge. jordan is among only a few athletes that transcends the boundaries of sports. jordan was a cultural phenomenon that joins the likes of ali and pele, probably even bigger. even before the age of the internet, his popularity somehow reached rural parts of 3rd world countries. little kids in the middle of nowhere could be seen running around in jordan jerseys. you could tell anyone in the world that so and so is the michael jordan of their profession and they would know what it means.
kobe is only basketball popular, and its only really high because the market has expanded, specifically to china. but outside basketball his name isnt that big. it may get thrown around here and there but it will not be talked about with the same reverence as MJ.
This. I usually don't post in kenneth threads because he's so obviously a joke but it really fascinates me the lengths someone like this will go through to live in their fantasy world where Kobe is anywhere near Jordan, either as a player or icon. Jordan is still atop the Harris poll for bball players all these years later with Kobe nowhere to be found. shoes still number one. I mean, the NBA just re-ran the "Like Mike" commercials from TWENTY YEARS ago.
Kenneth is pretty stupid, but he's not stupid enough to believe that Kobe will be anywhere near that 20 years from now. That would be like a really damned good Michael Jackson impersonator being looked at like MJ :oldlol:
And the fact that apparently dude had some meltdown where he was posting porn on here really shows just how low of an individual he is. Confirmed.
But again I ask, what is it about Kobe that attracts the biggest fu*** weirdos and freaks?
Mr Jabbar

and on and on and on. I really want to know what it is. Lebron has some weirdo stans, but a lot of the time I feel they're trying to up the troll game to compete with Kobe stans (of which it's impossible), but these Kobe freaks are 100% the real deal.

It's because fans didn't actually give as much of a shit about Jordan as ESPN/the NBA/Gatorade would have you to believe based on their Paul Bunyan-esque mythmaking.
In his last Wizards season fans didn't even vote him in as a starter into the Allstar game. The media had to go the route of demonizing Vince Carter (who the fans deemed more popular and worthwhile than MJay by voting him in) and pressuring him to give up his starting spot to Jordon't. :kobe:
Meanwhile Kobe is kicking everyone's ass in this year's voting. Kobe is clearly more universally beloved than what BSPN would have you believe and it proves how out of touch they are with sports reality.

I never specified that he only left the NBA prematurely. He left NCAA prematurely also and made his comeback to the game of basketball by joining the NBA. Therefore, his 4th comeback was to the Wizards.
It gets tiring having to correct your attempts to point out errors that aren't even there in the first place because you don't grasp fully what is being stated. Better luck next time I guess.
Also grammar mistakes from time to time are fine, but if you are going through the trouble to make a post about correcting something, you might want to make sure the post you are making doesn't contain grammar errors like "It's get's".

Lol I littererally was living so rent free in this guys mind last that I made him stay up all night and refresh his screen wondering if I'd reply! Is this guy still around or did he commit suicide after getting owned so badly?:confusedshrug:

Use it. Or don't. The world won't miss you.
You rattled dude. I ain't the one making shit up. A persona cannot get owned by getting accused of false accusations. You still responding which means you can't let go of the fact that you have this conversation lost. Keep on responding boy. You keep showing how obsessed you are with me. And yeah, use your yes man sportjames23 to keep playing Ed McMahon. Like I said I can keep this up all day! I bet it's making you pissed you can't get the last post because that's the only thing you would have left.
Proof, I went and got my son ready for school, you know, product time things, and you stayed on here making sure you got the last post.
This is going to haunt you forever. Keep em coming!

As expected, I have you eating out of the palm of my hand as I continue to live rent free. That's why it's been 4 hours since I responded to your last post, and yet here you are instantly, responding back. It's called me living rent free in your mind, and you just proved it. So much so to the point where you are now projecting you being rattled on to me in an attempt to convince yourself that you are in good spirits. You are droopy eyed, tired, (how can you possibly sleep when you are staring at the screen all night waiting to refresh) and now I have you completely shook. I have no problem continuing to own you throughout the day. Keep telling yourself whatever you need to, I'll check back in a few hours and make sure your still under my thumb where you belong. I bet you respond to this before I make another post on here.
LOL this is FUN!

Lol, I left to take my son to school, had a nice breaky, did a little work, because I have a life.
YOU, literally stayed on here those 4 hours unproductive in life, waiting to see if I'd respond!
Now tell me again is rent free? The one taking care of business, making money, and raising a family, or the one who's green light was lit staying up all morning checking to see if I'd respond?
Owned, slayed, rent free! Your in for a miserable day buddy. I run my own shit for work. I can post all day and still get payed. While you have no life, probably don't work or go to school, stays online to keep on getting his ass handed in your parents basement. Now that is pure comedy!

On top of that, I went out to take my son to school and did other productive things with my time, while he literally stayed on ISH doing absolutely nothing worth while obsessively waiting me. For 4 hours! Lol, kid is lost.

People's care and attention ran out to a minimum after his second retirement.

You mean you're going to put your life on hold because you're obsessed with me? Lol. You were already made out to be a fraud. The day will only get more people in here exposing how obsessed you are with me. I'll continue my day making money. What else are you going to do with your day? That's right, nothing but stay in your parents basement trying to win an internet battle. How much money or what have you learned in the ladt 4 hours? Think about that while you come up with your next lame response. Think about how you're going to wadte a day looking like an obsessed fool. Lol, the time is getting close. You're fuming you can't get a last post. Quick somebody lend this guy a razor so he can do this world a favor and end himself.

He ain't sleeping. He's so obsessed with me he's dedicated his day to update his response to me. He's probably downed some ephedrine and caffeine pills so he can "get to work" thinking he's owning me. Lol. He's gone as far as pretending to have a job at home because he was exposed as being a lifeless loser.
Hopefully he overdoses and this will all end shortly
