I don't know, I grew up watching him and he was always playing 100% with 100% intensity. The dude was good.

Who makes your list?

post-Jordan era is technically the beginning of the 2003-2004 season to the present

be more specific

What do you guys think?

Dirkulus has been a great player. He came over from a African village a 5 2 white guy who no one thought could make it. He has lead the Phoenix Mercury to 10 straight winning seasons and to 3 Stanley Cups. Along the way he has won the Golden Boot 2 times each year averaging 5 yards per carry. He did have a great coach in Nick Saban and great teammates like Usain Bolt and Roger Federer. Do not let that take away his great career though an all time great!

Dirk/Garnett/Wade
Nash/Curry/Durant
Dwight/McGrady/Kidd/AI

I agree with most of this list but I'm not sure how I feel about Nash being a tier above T-Mac and AI. Maybe, maybe not. I definitely think the biggest gap is between the 1st and 2nd tier. The others are so close

Surprised at how many people have Dirk over KG

well dirk should realistically have 2 rings and 2 finals mvps if not for the 2006 wade holocaust of all riggings

he took down the big 3 while they were all in their primes

he never ring chased

he won with his 2nd best player being jason terry

he stuck with 1 franchise

and i dont see dirk becoming a journeyman

garnett had the better absolute prime and he was a better all around player. but he ring chased and colluded with a former celtic and ray allen to get a free championship

and he wasnt even the 2nd best scorer on his team for that title

garnett has had a top 20-22 all time career and is a legend. but dirk is boarderline top 18-20 all time career and is slightly ahead

hes also probably going to be a top 5 scorer all time when hes retired

team success?

Though it's comical how high shaq is here if we're only talking post 98, there's really no argument for him being as high as he is.

shaq was a choking fool before 2000 with no real accomplishments yet so i dont see how thats an issue

and dirk had the much more respectable career than KG

2011 Finals was more Lebron's fault than Dirks merit, although he was ill, I think.

Dirk had teams good enough to make it into the Playoffs at least, KG didn't. The only time KG had a good team, and by good team I mean a past prime Sprewell and Cassell, he went all the way to the WCF. Sadly, he had bad luck and Cassell got injured.

whats more embarrasing

winning a finals somewhat due to the other teams star player choking/quitting

or winning a finals mostly due to ring chasing/colluding/rigging/riding the backs of 2 others as the 3rd leading scorer

Not embarrasing when you have spent you pre-prime prime and peak in a shithole called Minnesota. He wasted TWELVE! years there. If the team management can't build a good team for you, then it is 100% legit to take actions by yourself.

Not many all-time great players would have the patience KG had with that franchise.

i mean if KG wanted a better situation there are other options than just a colluded big 3 in boston

its not like there were any other big 3's to stop them either. that was the beginning of the colluded era

He was almost past his prime when he decided to join the Celtics, after having wasted TWELVE years in Minnesota. He had the right to want to join a championship caliber team.

KG rode the backs of 2 others on his way to a ring? :oldlol:

He was the highest scorer on the team during the playoffs that year, 20/10, as well as winning DPoY

But sure he rode their backs to a title :facepalm

Shaq has to be #1. Nobody has been as dominant or as feared since MJ. Were you watching ball in 2000-2005? I can't see how someone who was would make this mistake.

Duncan certainly was not. Kobe's reputation though, at his peak, was close (though in my opinion undeservedly).

If I were to rank them in terms of reputation for the "common fan," it would look something like this:

1. Shaq
2. Kobe
3. Duncan or Lebron
4. Duncan or Lebron
5. Garnett or Wade
6. Garnett or Wade
7. Durant
8. Iverson or Dirk
9. Iverson or Dirk
10... tough to say. Melo? Nash?

Iverson is hard to place. He's often left off these lists, even though he was universally feared and respected his whole playing career, always near the top in PPG, great passer as well, made the playoffs, clutch, extremely popular. I almost want to put him over Durant but can't quite do it.

OP clarified post-Jordan as after the last Bulls championship. If so, that cuts off some of Shaq's early career. This period exactly coincides with Duncan's entire CONTINUING (Shaq's retired) career. For this time period, imo there is no other #1 answer than Duncan (and it includes Kobe's not so hot beginning).

There's a clear cut top 7 of

Duncan
Shaq
LeBron
Kobe
KG
Dirk
Wade

After that 8-10 could go to nearly 10 other players
