Slam dunk champ is not bringing you to the Hall of fame.
Not a requirement, it would've been nice but who gives a crap. Move on.

The slam dunk competition has been a joke for many years just like you.

You would think that since youre allowed to have a teammate help you in the dunk contest, lebron would be all over it.

Cant use his favourite "I need more help" excuse if he lost.

Twice. Lebron's an idiot for doing this not for not participating.

GOAT like MJ, Gerald Green, Harold Miner, Nate Robinson And Kobe are slam dunk champs man
You forgot a few.
It would have been nice if he did it but the only legit criticism for him over this is when he said he would and then didn't. That made no sense. Should have just said he wasn't doing it, it's not that important and most people would have dropped the issue.

I think the issue is dropped or never existed with most people.
It's the dunk contest, the lamest thing in the NBA.

You can intertwine this thread with the one about people hating him.
I believe it was 09 where in an effort of blatant attention wh0ring, he declared that he'd enter the following dunk contest, only to never speak of it again.
While it's not a requisite to be an all time great, that was a pretty b1tch made move imo. Attempts to upstage the shine of the contest in that particular year only to never pull through.

What I dont get is......he said he was going to do it...IIRC in 05 or 06'
then in crunch time he bailed out??
WTF?....he could have won it.....he won the MacDonald's HS dunk contest in 03'
dude's power and ability to leap like 20' off of 1 leg would prolly have brought the house down.
IMO one of his " advisors" talked him outta of it for some reason.....prolly the same guy who stole the Jordan Crawford " dunk on Lebron" tape.

He definitely would have been the favourite to win because of fandom and legitimate ability. But he probably felt that losing would have been a terrible look, a blemish on his resume and just not worth the risk. He was afraid to lose... Didn't wanna take a chance of hurting his brand by losing to a Jeremy Evans or whoever

I would have liked to have seen him do it at least once, but no biggie, it has no effect on him as one of the GOATs.

Why "super athletic freak" in quotes?
Are you implying that he's not that?

It's a lose-lose situation for him. If he wins, his haters will say the contest is rigged or some shit like that and if he loses, that's going to be a bad look for his brand. It would've been nice to see tho.

I never heard of LeBron's vertical even being over 40". Most I heard was 37. Although in some games I wouldn't doubt he got up above 40". He's had some dunks where his eyes are at rim level.
If there ever was a time for him to be in the contest he should've done it in his first two years. After that is a moot point.
Let's be honest. LeBron didn't participate in the dunk contest for two reasons. One, he was afraid of losing or being embarrassed. Two, he's just not that great of a creative dunker. He's always been a power dunker, but he's never really had the finesse to be creative about it.

He should have participated during his 2nd season like Kobe.
I don't care that he never did though, it's just an exhibition game.

This is what I don't understand. Did Wade participate? Bosh? Anthony? KD? Westbrook? Rose? Dirk?
Why is it on Lebron to participate in a contestant that his contemporaries clearly don't care about either?

He's always been a power dunker, but he's never really had the finesse to be creative about it.I think that played a big role in matters.
His best, most athletic stuff usually came off of one foot as opposed to two, the latter of which most often allows for the widest range of creativity. In pre-games, I'd still see him replicate a lot of good stuff off two — Vince's clockwise Statue of Liberty 360 with one hand, for instance — but he may have not had a lot of innovation off two when it came down to it.
In the McDonald's contest in high school, a lot of his dunks were pretty plain, just with solid elevation (I'd have to watch again, but I mostly just remember varied takes on standard double pumps). But we usually don't get a player's best performance in high school. Vince Carter's high school show, for instance, paled in comparison to his 2000 performance (though, that's Vince Carter).
I think what had me most excited about James in an NBA dunk contest was the prospect of him jumping with his foot entirely behind the free throw line (basically a smoother looking Serge Ibaka dunk in 2011, but before Ibaka). Seeing how far James could take off in games, I thought he'd be capable of that feat in 2005 or 2006. And I'm sure there could have been a one-footed between-the-legs or windmill variant he could have complemented things with.
But yeah, there was probably a lot of image and public relations stuff surrounding his lack of participation. Even if he'd pulled off a hypothetical behind-the-free-throw-line dunk, it'd just have been tilted by many as him trying to be like Michael Jordan.
