If an established star has a bad game like this, it is remembered for a while.
Meanwhile, if one of these pretend super-stars (Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler) has a game like this, nobody ever remembers it and they will still mention these guys in their top 5 lists to sound smart and different.
The Top 5 players list usually stays pretty consistent. For a player to jump into it, he usually is in the top 5-10 range for a few years before taking that leap into the top 5.
Stop trying to be a hipster and throwing Kawhi and Paul George's name in the top 5 list. Let them prove themselves first.
I couldn't imagine Kawhi actually running a team by himself, without Tony Parker, Duncan, and Ginobli on his side. That sh*t would be a train wreck.

Spurs players operate under a totally different set of standards and expectations. It's been that way for a while now.
Kawhi shit himself completely in the later games of that Clippers series last year. No one says a word because it's Kawhi and he plays for the Spurs. It's just the way it is.

Did you watch the game? Kawhi was actually playing ok, he wasn't required in the same role that he usually takes because TP and Aldridge were providing the offense, his defense was stellar as always.
Although I agree Kawhi isn't quite ready for prime time.

Kawhi has been playing well all season. Haven't been following but has he had many bad games recently?

Average games, he doesn't have the usage of the superstar players but is very efficient with the looks he gets. They haven't been going to him as much recently as well which I find a bit strange.

If a player is having an awesome season, and has one bad game, I don't start threads and meltdown on said players tbh

Now Paul George is a different story.

He's a consistent star (not super-star by a decent stretch) player.
He hasn't had any bad games like this for 4 weeks.
But he also has only made at least 10 FG's in ONE GAME in all of December and January.
I kept seeing random people on here list him as the second best or even best SF in the game right now. That sh*t was freakin weird.
Lebron and Durant aren't having peak years or anything, but they are still on another level (literally...they have completely different roles and are relied upon to create their whole team's offenses, meanwhile Kawhi can pick his spots whenever Duncan/Alrdige/Parker aren't creating) than Kawhi.

Yes, knee-jerk reactions to Kawhi putting up the most points per game and shooting 49% on 3 pointers for the first few months of the year on a red hot team is exactly what I am talking about here.
Thanks for agreeing with me.

Kawhi is a system player. He greatly benefited playing with Pop, and Tim Duncan. Let's can see if he can carry the Spurs once these two are gone next season.
If he wants to be label as a Superstar. He needs to play like one. Parker when he was the Spurs best player gets blame every time he had a bad game.

OK I can see your point but for the most part he was the offense until Aldridge caught on I guess. Now that Parker is coming on I can see how he may be taking a backseat. Seems similar to Steph taking a backseat to Klay when he's on. I'm just guessing here.

Why bother replying to him? You could cure cancer in front of him and he'd find something to nitpick or be angry about.

if lebron, westbrook, durant, even kobe had something like this, ish would be on full lockdown mode. But if its kawhi? Its okay, he had great defense!!! The system hindered his scoring. Kawhi leonard benefits greatly from the system and is in no way shape or form a true elite player.

Even if he has an off night shooting, his defense can always be counted on

This is true....all of the current top 5 candidates (Curry, Lebron, Durant, Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Chris Paul) play at least pretty good defense too though. So its not such a gigantic difference that would make us kick one of them out and give their spot to Kawhi.

Yeah, just a testament to the Spurs system and front office really. They are such a good team all around when one guy has an off nighy they don't even miss a beat.

This is why no Spurs player should get any MVP recognition what so ever. Everyone of them is simply a screw of a well oil machine. They can excel without anyone of them. Well maybe except for Pop.

I was saying the entire time that he would fall off...that he was just really hot with his jumper in those first couple of games.

Kawhi can have games where he is having the worst of shooting nights, and he could still be the best player on the floor due to his defensive instincts. He can dominate a game with defense, you don't see that too often.

One game. Relax
Also we gonna act like Parker/ginobili/Duncan didn't drop 60 points? LMA had 22
This would actually be something if the Spurs lost

1. Pop and Duncan will still be here next season. Manu might be the only one leaving
2. Parker has a bad game every other night, Kawhi has a bad game like 3 times a season. And When Kawhi is having a bad game on offense he's a dpoy level player. There have been games this year where Parker had more turnovers than points and played 0 defense. If Kawhi's shots aren't falling he still produces in most other areas. A bad Kawhi is a lot more rare than Parker when he was the 1st option.

True, that Toronto game was his worst game of the year for him on both ends. Outside of that and this game, he's been more or less great.

Not really. The only other area where Kawhi excels in man to man defense. I'm sure that Kawhi doesn't guard an all-star in about half of his games. Thus, in those games, his man to man defense cannot be such a large factor.
Kawhi is not a good passer. Not a great playmaker. Not a great rebounder. These were Pippen's best traits...he was almost as good at them as he was at defense. Which makes the Pippen comparisons absurd.

This is why he's a system player. If LeBron, Harden, Curry, Durant, Westbrook, Davis, CP3 etc have a game as poor as this against a very good team on the road it's an automatic L.
