View Full Version : I think the NBA is lacking an elite shooting guard right now

now that Kobe and Wade are old, there aren't any SGs in the league that are as exciting to watch as they were.
the top 3 SG right now is Klay Thompson, James Harden and Jimmy Butler and they're not the high flyers that wade and kobe were and dunking on everyone every game.

He's the tallest midget as far as best offensive shooting guards. If he were playing in the early 00's though nobody would give a shit about him.

In his time in Houston he has averaged 26.5 6.4 5.5
On high TS percentages. He has had a MVP caliber year in 2014-2015
He is elite as elite can be offensively.

True, we were spoiled to get to watch Wade and Kobe play as of late, it's a shame their primes are over and all we're left with is this bunch. No knock on Butler and Harden (actually yes, knock on Harden, dude is overrated), but they just seen up to par with what we've been treated to since 84'. Who do the college fans here think can be the next elite SG so I can look out for them?

He had a great season last year yes, but I would refrain from throwing the word elite around when talking about his game, he is very one-dimensional as an isolation scorer, good passer, but the dude lacks a lot of things, including a proper mid-range game. Step-backs and flopping through the lane does not make you elite.
SG is the weakest position in the league.

Bradley Beal has all the talent but he is such a little bitch. I dont even know if the injuries are that serious at this point.
James Harden HAD all the talent but he just looks so out of shape this year
Rashaun Vaughn is the next great SG mark my words

And I know it's early, but have you heard of Frank Jackson who's going to Duke in 2016?

I'm just going to say James Harden was second in MVP voting and made it to the conference finals.
If he is not elite than the only people who are elite in basketball are Curry,Lebron,Westbrook and Durant.

his own team had him waving towels on the bench down the stretch, while the likes of Josh Smith won the decisive closing moments of the game
It should barely even count for his resum

Nobody in the history of this site have ever explained why they think Harden doesn't have a midrange game, that's what happens when mindless sheep repeat another person's opinion.
We have three to four SGs in this era who are All-Star locks, then you have young guys like Beal and Wiggins who are future All-Stars.
In all honestly, being defined as a SG is situational for most players. Most 6'6" and above SGs can play SF and most 6'8" and below SFs can play SG.

Harden killed the Mavericks.
Harden played below his potential in the Clippers series, but played really well in Game 7 when it mattered.
Harden had two or three great games in the Western Conference Finals.
His most recent postseason had a lot of good and some bad and ugly, but he'll be remembered more for the ugly.

I will also say this, part of being "elite" is managing to maintain that level of excellency over a stretch of games and seasons, Harden is so inconsistent, he hasn't backed up that excellent year he had at all so far.
And the bolded would be correct, the words "elite" and "superstar" are thrown around too much these days.

With Kobe and Wade way past out of their prime and one is retiring, yes this is the worst crop of shooting guard in League history. If you look at the top 3, Jimmy and Klay are decent two way players, Har*en is overrated as ****. shooting 40% and can't play D.

Who gives a ****. He's having an average season compared to the standards he set last season which were as good as Kobe/Wade have set. But he's normally elite. Even in this down year he's putting up ridiculous numbers
Besides, this isn't the 1950s. It's a positionless league. Westbrook and Curry are basically SG's and are just as good as Wade/Kobe were.
This thread is so stupid my brain hurts. The argument is basically these players aren't any good because they don't rely on their athleticism like Wade & Kobe. Are we in Elementary school where we're only impressed by highlight plays?

Ridiculous numbers? No
Ridiculously bad defense? Yes
He sucks. Can't build a championship team around him, unlike with Curry, Kobe or Wade.

You can't build a Championship caliber team around him yet he's already played in two WCF's in his career. While a supposedly elite SG like Tmac never sniffed that stage. :biggums:

You mean the WCF he played last year thanks to Clippers being Clippers? Oh great, he sure had a chance to win it all.
As far as I know, he only played one WCF as the man, not two

And deservedly so when wets the bed in the final game of Houston's season with 2-11 shooting and an ALL TIME RECORD 12 turnovers. Just embarrassing.
Coupled with the previous two years in which he also wet the bed in the playoffs, and there is ZERO reason to put Harden anywhere near 'elite' status, even in a league that is so watered down in elite talent. For all of his regular season heroics last year, it means jack shit if you continually become a detriment to your team in the playoffs.

It was 13 TURNOVERS!!!!
If not for his typical day at the Free Throw line, he would have had twice the turnover than points.
