Probably Malone, but Big Ben is right up there as well. Barkley isnt in the conversation.

I'd wager it was wallace and not even close which is saying something as those were not two weak guys. Wallace was a freak of nature.

Ben Wallace. He had a 39 inch vertical, Malone only had 28. Barkley doesn't compare.

Malone had a below the poverty line vertical. Wallace's vert as a 6'7" center.

Karl Malone is the 2nd highest scorer in the history of the NBA with a sub 30 vertical jump.

Shaq imo wasn't that strong pound for pound. Wallace was pound for pound about as strong as you can possible be. Malone is more impressive looking i guess, not really sure about that to be honest, but wallace's defense at his size tells me that strength was a HUGE factor for his success.

Strong has multiple definitions, and lifting is not the only one. Shaq is the stronger NBA player ever IMO.

Barkley was a force of nature. It was like they dropped an NFL player into the NBA. He was probably every bit as strong as Wallace and Malone. Just watch old highlights of him posting up taller players and just abusing the shit out of them.

I don't think Shaq is the strongest in nba history . But he's one of them . Lifting is most important point in who is stronger . Body strong , balance are important too . Shaq probably had greatest balance and one of the greatest body strong in nba history .

Honestly Barkley probably had a significantly more powerful lower body than either Malone or Wallace.

In terms of raw bench press numbers or curl numbers, definitely Karl Malone.
Squats likely Barkley.
Ben Wallace would win on lateral raises.
Usable strength during rebounding positioning, Barkley wins, due to core and hip and thigh/ass strength superiority.
Grabbing and clearing the ball during the airborne portion of a rebound, Wallace.
Sheer PSI of force when Dunking, punching, or pushing, Malone.

Honestly Barkley probably had a significantly more powerful lower body than either Malone or Wallace.and this is why head to head he would out rebound both of them. Despite being smaller and havin a weaker upper body.

What about deadlift? Curry can do 400.

What about deadlift? Curry can do 400.Barkley would win deadlift. His thigh and butt strength when he weighed 300-310 on philly was just flat out stronger than the narrower hips and less thunder thighs or the other two. Wallace appears to have a stronger back than Malone, so deadlift I put Malone last. Despite Malone having the most sheer arm strength.

strong when talking about athletes is and has always been best measured by lifting....though not the bench press, never the bench press.

I think all of these guys with training are going to be over 600, 500 is generally considered the min to call someone strong in gym terms.

This thread wasn't about who was strongest pound for pound. It was about who was stronger, period. Wallace did get an awful lot of explosive strength out of his 6'7" 235 pound body. And don't argue, Ben himself told TNT he was only 6'7"
But even if you squeeze every ounce of strength you can out of 235-240 pounds, that is still woefully shy of Barkley's career between 260-310, and Malone career of a solid 265.

I do'nt buy for a second wallace was only 235 but even if he was, there's not a damn oz of excess body fat on him. He unquestionably has more lean mass than charles.
As for the pound for pound thing, the reason I bring that up is no an excuse or something, but to account of leverage which in the case of shaq he had a freakish amount of. That is not a function of strength but a function of just sheer size. It gives him similar advantages as raw power but it is different. I wanted to separate mass from strength as they can often get confused or combined incorrectly.
That is also not to say leverage and mass don't skew gym numbers which is still our best measure even if it's our best measure.

Check the back of his basketball cards per year for his weights between 230-240. No way he had more lean mass than peak late 80's Barkley. In his deltoids and biceps maybe. Definitely not in his butt or legs.
You do make a good point about leverage though.

he was short and fat and had huge leverage advantages over other guy, and super human freaky athletic abilities.
As for ben being all upper body, just no. You don't play defense like he did without having powerful legs and a strong posterior chain.
