I have barely heard anything about these Spurs and they are probably going to have the best regular season in franchise history... Just amazing considering Duncan is much worse than last year as a player with the age catching up. Kawhi should seriously be the leading MVP candidate at this point.
20/8/3/2 a game on 51/48/87 shooting, .296 WS/48, leader in defensive win shares, when he's on the floor the Spurs have a 92 DRTG and 121 ORTG (team has a 95 DRTG and 110 ORTG overall), they have the best defense in the league and a top 3 offense.

He's done as a franchise player at his age...just like Duncan is. Difference is that one is playing with hall of famers and arguably the GOAT coach in all of sports while the other is playing with rookies and trash journeymen under arguably the worst coach in sports history.
Anyone with common sense would understand this.

Duncan might have slipped a hair, but by no means has he dropped off. He's playing a different role to allow Aldrige to do well.

He's still a good player, a valuable asset to the team but what I meant was that he's no longer the player the team relies upon to win games every night. He's the leader on the defensive end when he's on the floor but he's clearly not the man on the team anymore.

He's not the man this this more so because they added a max contract guy and leonard stepped up more so than Duncan declining (assuming you think he was the man last year and isn't this year, which is how i read that).

Duncan is irreplaceable, you can't just go out and get someone to fill his role as leader and mentor. Spurs are lucky though because they also have Parker and Manu, basically 3 selfless very experienced leaders. That's culture for you and now Kawhi will continue that onwards. I still think Spurs will drop significantly once Duncan/Manu/Parker retire. Their young talent isn't very good (Simmons etc).

Anyone with common sense would understand this.
The difference is that one is playing like an idiot and one is playing intelligently.
Duncan cannot play as a first option/franchise player at this point in career but he understands that and has instead been one of the best defensive players in the league so far this season. Doesn't hurt that he has GOAT tier leadership/intangibles. The Lakers wouldn't be winning anything either way but there's no denying that they would be better if Kobe wasn't playing like an idiot, be it in the here and now as far as wins or in the future as far as player development.

For a while there, they played under the radar and understandably given Golden State's success. Only a few games that separate the two now though. Crazy.
Game this Monday night will be a heavyweight bout, assuming Pop doesn't troll all of us by resting his starters. :oldlol:

Signing LMA with Leonard playing like an MVP candidate is huge though. Don't undersell them. They may not be able to dethrone the Warriors, but San Antonio will be scary good come playoff time.

Well that was 2 years ago, Warriors are a juggernaut RIGHT NOW. I doubt Aldridge is gonna push them over the edge. I don't trust Tony Parker either, dude is the ultimate punching bag for guys like Curry and Westbrook.

At this point I hope Durant/Westbrook get to a team with real management, OKC just gave a max contract to Enes Canter.
Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Westbrook with the Clippers, him and Paul always have great chemistry in All-Star games/Olympics. They find each other constantly and with 2 elite passers Deandre/Griffin can clean up everything. Though idk how that works with the cap.

Spurs still have a huge advantage over the Warriors with their frontcourt. That's the real key to beating the Warriors. Plus they have a much better bench. And not to mention that the Warriors haven't won in San Antonio in almost 20 years.

Awful post.
I'll assume that you disagree with the whole thing? Okay, here goes on what that means for your opinions:
Duncan can still be a franchise player
Duncan is a horrible defender despite all evidence pointing to the contrary
Kobe is playing smart basketball and helping his team
Shooting 34.5% from the field is a good thing
Taking shots from young players is a good thing
Just so I understand exactly how wrong you are about everything.

Comparing Duncan and Kobe's situation at the moment is comparing apples to oranges.
I do not know how this could be any more evident.

Bench and frontcourt is nice and all, but superstars carry teams in the playoffs. And Spurs have no answer for a once in a lifetime type talent like Curry. The gameplan goes out the window when you got a guy that can pull up from 30 feet and nail a 3 in your face.
I don't see how Spurs gonna keep up with the Warriors in a 7 game series, it's not like Pop has the usual coaching advantage vs Kerr either.

Is Duncan playing smart basketball, focusing entirely on defense, and making the most out of his situation? Is Kobe playing like an idiot and taking shots from the Lakers young players? The answers seem clear. Not sure what there is to take issue with there.

Spurs are on pace to having the greatest defensive season in NBA history. They are the team best equipped to slow down the Warriors offense. Then they have a much better bench, better coaching and a better frontcourt.
There's still alot of season to be played but I think they will beat the Warriors. But to be honest I would rather an OKC/LAC rematch but that's not happening at all.

What you're telling me: Kobe ignoring the fact that he's now physically incapable of being a franchise player and refusing to adapt his game in a way similar to what Duncan did is not his fault.
Kobe could play it the way KG did and try to mentor the young players on his team and help their development. But he won't. Because he's too busy being a cancer on the court and cares more about himself than the team's future.
