He was robbed in Jerry Maguire and Rain Man.

Should have won for Rain Man, but I think the Scientology has turned people off since then.

Did anyone come away from that movie thinking he did a better acting job than his co-star?

No but he should have at least been nominated for Best Supporting Actor that year. Hoffman was unbelievable though.

Most underrated actor of all time.
People say he's mainstream and also his co-stars get a lot of attention. For example, in Jerry Maguire, Cuba Gooding Jr won the oscar for best supporting actor.

Everyone talks about Leo
What about my boy T-Cruise. Jerry Maguire was a master performance

He should have won an Oscar in the movie Born on the Fourth of July. Daniel Day-Lewis won his first academy awards for his performance in the movie left foot.
I wish he start accepting Oscar worthy movie role again.
because he's mostly been only interested in taking on roles that show him as some type of alpha savior of the universe. he has to be a hero in the script.
he'd probably get way more recognition if he tried something totally different like taking on less flattering roles... maybe accept roles that are dark, odd, deeply flawed, and eccentric with a lot of emotional baggage in the character.
but he's probably too concerned and insecure with protecting his image, even if it's just playing a fictional character on screen.

I'm fine with Tom, but never once thought of a performance of his as Oscar worthy. Magnolia is the closest.

he truly deserves one, as well as Depp and Leo.

This is the best dissection of Cruise's career lately.
He has a vested interest in making sure people try and see him in this 'more than a man' capacity

This. He hasn't taking very many challenging roles in the last 25 years. He kind of started to try and go for an oscar in the early 2000s with Magnolia (99 in that case), Vanilla Sky, and especially The Last Samurai...but pretty much gave up after TLS didn't garner him shit.

Last Samurai is my favorite Tom Cruise movie. It's a great flick IMO. I don't care if it is the same story as Last of the Mohicans, that doesn't make it any less entertaining.
Not Cruise's best work acting, but it is his best movie to star in IMO.

If someone was going to win an Oscar for Rain Man, it's wasn't Tom.

And my favorite Tom Cruise movie, outside of Top Gun of course, is Far and Away. Underrated movie, and I'm always surprised how many people have never seen it.

Yeah, I really like it too...except for the end which is full of director Edward Zwick's typical melodramatic bullshit.

That's like saying Drexler deserved the 1992 MVP over Jordan.

I really liked him in Collateral, that would be my oscar choice for him and his best performance.

His only Oscar worthy performance was in Born on the 4th of July IMO, and that year I think he was up against DDL and Robin Williams (My Left Foot and Dead Poet's Society).

I don't know about Oscar but the man just makes damn good movies.
Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, MI 4 in recent years alone.

He got lazy and refused to take roles that would challenge him as an actor. He went for the big bucks and has been making dumb action movies for the last 20 years.

I liked him in Magnolia, can't say he had a proper acting performance in any other movie, he has a few nice action movies though that I thoroughly enjoyed.
