after the bird/magic fall out. there was no real competition for jordan. and both clans had to come together. right now is no different

the king ( kobe ) and queen ( lebron ) are dead

long live the new king

this thread is dedicated to the life and times of Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. who woulda thought both careers would end simultaneously

I can't really concede that GS and Curry have started their era, especially when the Spurs are just as likely to come out of the West this year. Dam, those Spurs wont go away, will they?

You've been led astray. The real plot twist at the twilight of both their careers is the revelation that it's been the Pop era since the turn of the century. Pop = Christopher Nolan.

He's been generous enough to allow Lebron to go 2/6 and Kobe to go 2/7. Let's see what his plans for Curry are.

kobes 4 for 6 vs pop and 5 for 7 in nba finals

and pop said this

saying kobe is the best offensive and defensive player in basketball is pretty high praise. especially considering it came at a time when duncan was in his absolute prime

imagine phil jackson saying tim duncan was the best player in the league during 2005-06

It's a Pleasantry. Pure generosity. It is charity out of the goodness of his heart. Now Kobe's on his way out in embarrassing fashion while the Spurs look as good as ever. Reality speaks louder than words.

if kobe played for sanantonio and only got called on to average 8ppg. he would be going out in good fashion aswell

not everyone can happily be a role player on a team that doesnt even really need them however

kobe has more self respect than pay cut taking bench warmer tim duncan

and to tell you the complete honest truth. only one of kobe/duncan gets the this type of send off into retirement. i dont see it as embarrassing at all

duncan will retire without even getting a game ball. let alone all 30 teams worshiping him for 48 minutes

This is why you're kind of an embarrassment. You take your toolbag views on things and apply them to Duncan, as though HE should be embarrassed..

Duncan has literally NEVER given a shit about fame...or pretty much anything you seem to care about.

What about anything Duncan has done ever in his career isn't respectful? Rhetorical question...I know you can't actually answer that honestly.

Dirk's era comes without flashlights and magaziner covers, its quiet, shy, almost secret... bringing a different side of the German presentation to Americans but they still didnt appreciate him yet.

Surely he was the best player in '06, least we can agree on that, no?

Imo Wade & Kobe were better in '06. How I'd break it down

Based on titles
Shaq: '00-'02
Duncan: '03-'07
Kobe: '08-'10
LeBron: '11-'16

Based on individual play
Shaq: '00-'02
Duncan: '03-'05
Kobe: '06-'08
LeBron: '09-'16

Seriously. If that wasn't Kobe's defining period then you could go either Nash / Wade. Certainly not Dirk. And there is an argument for 2009 or 2010 belonging to Kobe given the way the playoffs ended the seasons.

How is it both Kobe and Wade though?

Wade strictly on play? Okay...

but giving Kobe the edge based on being in his prime, experience, hardship, etc. then Dirk should get that same edge.

But to me Dirk was the best of the bunch in the regular season, and even with the bad finals, still put up a historic win share post-season, showing he amazing he was before.

Please don't mention a top 12-15 player like Kobe with the runner up GOAT.

And ever since 2010, Kobe was not even a top 5 players of the league (besides a great bounce back year in 2012 or whatever it was, after the germany surgery), so from 2010 to 2015 it was already the Lebron and Durant era.

Last year, Curry improved and turned joined those two at the top.

So:

2000-2005: Shaq/Duncan/KG
2006-2010: Lebron/Kobe/Wade
2011-2015: Lebron/Durant
2015 and current: Lebron/Durant/Curry

...and sprinkled into the above were some great individual season's of greatness like CP3 2008 and Dirk 2011.

lol why would LeBron be listed first 2006-2010?

Kobe was simply a better player 2006-2008, then when LeBron was winning MVPs and actually had an argument over Kobe, he lost b2b years in the playoffs as the 1 seed before the finals while Kobe was leading the Lakers to b2b championships.

There's just absolutely zero argument to put LeBron over Kobe for that 5-year span.

Why give Kobe 2006? Wade was putting up historic numbers and leading his team to a ring while Kobe was blowing 3-1 leads in the 1st round.

See how dumb that sounds when you don't account for team help. Kobe was winning rings because he had a stacked team while Lebron didn't, period.

It should be Kobe from 06-08 while he was the BITW, and Lebron from 09-16 where he is clearly the BITW..
But if you want to use your logic and give Kobe 09/10 then you have to give Wade 2006. Can't have it both ways, young Kobetard.:confusedshrug:
