Apparently NHL fans voted a scrub as the All-Star game Captain. Then the player got traded... and demoted to the Minors. This would be like Ronnie Brewer being the starter/captain in the NBA All-Star game. :oldlol:

I could 100% do this considering I only know of two NHL players

Fans tried this 10 years ago, voting Rory Fitzpatrick, a scrub blue-liner, for the 3rd most among Western Conference defenders, 23,000 vote shy of a Hall of Famer Nick Lindstrom.

With much better social media, they actually succeed with a goon that is John Scott this time. Still, NHL finds a way to thwart it by sending him down.

I see both sides of the debate on this one but with no real stake in NHL hockey, I've kind of enjoyed watching this little spectacle play out, and not in a "make-fun" type of way. I'm legitimately interested to see him play.

Moreover, at first I figured it was just a cool little movement and he'd see a little ice time so it wouldn't be a big deal. But then I realized this year's all-star game format is... weird. If I have it right, it'll be:

-3-on-3 hockey between two divisions in the first period
-3-on-3 hockey between the other two divisions in the second period
-3-on-3 hockey between the two winning divisions in the third period

I mean, if John Scott was really messing with some kind of traditional sanctity of the all-star event that'd be one thing. But when you turn your game into a revolving door contest of 3-on-3, yeah, I guess I don't feel as bad when people decide to have their way with the system.

That said, if that format carried over into the NBA all-star game, would there be any non-superstar types who'd be worth voting in simply for their potential advantage in half court three-on-three? I feel like Boban would be a shoe-in.

No, he's still gonna be the All-Star Captain... even though he's playing in the Minors. That's what makes it so amazing.

Huge hockey fan but not sure if this new format will have me watching it

NHL created this mess on their own and now they have to fix it. Fans have all rights to vote whoever they want for an event created for fans. NHL should have set the system better but they opted not to do anything.

Watching a goon and an aging 90's superstar in a 3-on-3 game will be disastrously fun. I will try to have a time watching this, at least some highlights that I have never done ever.

I just don't like three on three in general. It's very odd to not have three offensive players on a line to me outside of the PK. Doesn't feel like hockey so an entire game to me of that just kinda sucks.

Add in that players are limited to specific periods and I just don't like the switch
