Was Blatt really that bad? I don't watch alot of Cavs' games, but he does seem like a well spoken dude who knows Xs & Os.
Honestly I don't think he was, but I suspect that Lue had a louder voice in the locker room than Blatt, Blatt STILL hadn't figured out his rotations, and if you look on the sidelines during games, Blatt isn't the one talking, it's Lue and LeBron talking and telling players what to do most of the time.

From day one it just felt that Blatt didn't have the player's attention, and if you're not a former player as a coach it's hard to get the attention of players in the league it seems unless you got something special about you.

I'm just surprised they didn't give it until the end of the year, but I suppose most of the players were behind this with LeBron being the leader of it.

- They get all the way to the finals in his first year there and put up a great fight against the Warriors despite being extremely undermanned.

- They come back the next season and are the #1 seed in the east by 4 games. Yeah you got bodied by the Warriors in that game last Monday but you come back and win the next 2 games by double digits.

He's not a new coach though. He's been the assistant for a year and a half almost and if you pay attention in timeouts, in a lot of them Blatt isn't drawing up anything, Lue is.

The main thing I don't like about this is LeBron has expressed he's always wanted to play for a coach who has been a former player. This is the first time this will happen in his career. I'm not sure if he wants this because he relates to the coach more and will listen to the coach more, or if LeBron figures he can bend the coach towards what LeBron wants to do more often than not.

Well obviously it's been in the works, hence the multi year deal for Lue. That has to be negotiated usually through an agent or management.

When a coach is fired mid season there is an interim coach until the end of the year. I don't think I've ever seen the assistant have a deal in place at the time the Coach is fired.

Maybe Blatt will be forthcoming if he didn't sign a confidentiality clause or something.

Lue is like 5'11 but he played in the finals on those laker teams and has some experience under Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers.

Lue comes from Doc rivers coaching tree. Doc is great at developing. I believe Lue will be a good coach. He's been in pressure situations and was a PG always known to have a high IQ in basketball.

I know LeBron's name will get thrown around a lot in this, but the issues with Blatt went much, much deeper than LeBron James...LeBron did/said all the right things to publicly support Blatt this year. This was an entire locker room issue. No one connected with him...Talked to couple vets, came "this close" to writing locker room story after Portland. But #Cavs won at Phx & kept winning, so I backed off...Was told repeatedly, "as long as we're winning, there's no story." Guys tolerated Blatt when #Cavs won, blamed him when they lost.

I've harbored misgivings early on about David Blatt in his "rookie" season, but he's proven to have a place in this league once he's traversed the learning curve of NBA-coaching. We've seen many times where he called a timeout and then saw his team go on game-changing runs as the adjustments paid off.

During the playoffs run that year, he encountered a string of great coaches in Brad Stevens, Tom Thibodeau, and Mike Budenholzer; you're unlikely to win series against them if you're an incompetent coach when it boils down to the playoffs. We've seen the Mike Brown-coached Cavaliers always end up roadblocked when encountering well-coached teams; but in Blatt's first stint with a crippled Cavaliers team, he coached his team past them and took the championship-favored Warriors to task.

If he coached his team to a wealth of success and inconsequently ended up fired for it, all there is to assume is that this was demanded by the players. They simply failed to swallow their pride and embrace an under-established coach as their leader.

The players have made their bed; now it's time to see how it shakes out moving into the future. This move just added another quality coach

He's not a new coach though. He's been the assistant for a year and a half almost and if you pay attention in timeouts, in a lot of them Blatt isn't drawing up anything, Lue is.

The main thing I don't like about this is LeBron has expressed he's always wanted to play for a coach who has been a former player. This is the first time this will happen in his career. I'm not sure if he wants this because he relates to the coach more and will listen to the coach more, or if LeBron figures he can bend the coach towards what LeBron wants to do more often than not.
