POP doesn't want to show his cards I guess. However, why would he concede the 1st seed to the dubs? The WCF will go seven games so HCA is huge. Not to mention the Spurs would have to face the Thunder before the WCF.

Say this game happens. Say Duncan gets injured for the season from this game. Now, people will be deprived of Spurs-Warriors ball through the postseason (if it comes down to it)

With this mentality we might as well put him on house arrest. He could walk outside, trip and break his ankle.

Since Duncan is old as fck, injury becomes more likely

He should rest him for the season, since an injury can happen on any given play. It can happen in practice.

Spurs got bounced in the first round because of 1 game last year. Every game counts and throwing one away trying to be sly, is just dumb. I hope he enjoys playing game 7 in GS.

You can't play sports with constant fear of injury, otherwise just skip the regular season and go right to the playoffs.

Even in football, where injury chance is much greater, they don't sit guys until the final 2 weeks and that's only if everything is locked up. Even then it's dumb, and can ruin momentum, like it did for the Broncos a few years ago.

Doing it in a January NBA game is chicken shit. #1 seed is still in play for the Spurs.

Over the last few weeks Duncan has not been moving as well as he can. Now a 30 year old Duncan, who cares play on, but at his age and going against a team that Duncan WILL give 100%, Pop decided to just sit him. I never said Duncan is worried about injury, I doubt he is. Pop's job is to make the right moves with his personnel and it seems he doesn't feel like taking a risk here.

You should remember this is the same coach who wouldn't play Parker 35 minute a game when he was in his 20's. Pop has always been the voice of reason with player minutes at least since around 06 after two years of Duncan playing far too few games.

Add in I don't doubt Pop isn't upset about not showing them his full roster. It's a marathon not a sprint and at the end of the day this game might decided home court, but odds are against it and Pop isn't going to play a game this time of the year like it is a playoff game. His players however will.

STFU about home court, thats even dumber at this point of the season - and where the Spurs are - than the argument Duncan is gonna make that much difference at this point.

Its funny when outsiders try and talk about your team, when they rely on second/third hand info to draw their wrong opinions.

Duncan is still a big part of what makes the spurs tick. Now if they keep winning by 20+ I guess it doesn't matter but hell Kawhi could sit and it wouldn't cost them anything the way they've been playing the last few weeks.

It sucks as a fan. There's two teams that matter; the rest of the NBA sucks. No offense, no effort on defense, lack of focus, or some combination of these. GSW and SA are the only teams that play the right way and play hard every minute. It would have been nice to see the full lineups play each other.

However, I still think it will be a worthy matchup with or without Duncan and SA could still win the game.

It has nothing to do with being healthy in the playoffs, if he wanted, he could have easily rested Duncan against the Lakers and play him against Warriors, but he didn't. He clearly doesn't want to show all of his cards in the regular season.

It's one game against your competition when both teams are pacing for 70. This isn't a random .5 worth game against a shit team like the Cavs or Clippers. Win here and it's literally a one game swing in the standings. I bet at the end of the season both teams are going to be around a game or two within each other.

For what it's worth Duncan is legitimately injured, this isn't an excuse from Pop. Duncan hasn't looked right since the Cavs game and has already missed over a week's worth of games due to knee issues. Yes, he's old and Pop handles his team with kid gloves but if it was a playoff game Duncan would play but he has legit knee issues.

Yeah Sean Elliott said Duncan's been in real pain most of the season - I guess that's to be expected when you only have one functioning knee.
