Mark Cuban on Kobe Bryant, who faces the Mavericks for the final time tonight: "When I think about Kobe, it's not so much awards or rings or wins or losses. It's intensity and his ability to show people what it takes to be a star. There's a group of guys that are so disciplined and focused beyond what is normally humanly possible

Cheating on your wife is a great thing to do as a role model though.

Its not cheating if his wife is into that kind of thing. I don't know Vanessa personally so I really can't say one way or another.

anyone who views a sports figure as a role model in life is misinformed, anyhow.

How?

Whether you like it or not, he isn't someone to look up to off the court as far as children looking for a role model or someone to be like in the sports world.

It depends on what you're looking at. You shouldn't care about his private life but as far as off court stuff go his work ethic (nutritioning, conditioning) is something anyone could study and benefit from.

I don't really care for anything aside from what they do on the court, but I just found the quote amusing, considering their are well known mishaps that Kobe has had off the court.

why? because he was accused of rape? because of his infidelity? Kobe is looked up to for his mentality and approach to the game of basektball for his singular determination and sheer power of will. He's greatness personified. He will come to your stadium drop 81 points and have the crowd cheer like it's his home court. He's the most inspirational sports figure of our generation. His miscues in marriage is irrelevant to me, I'm not looking for a saint or father figure.

Jordan, Kobe, and Bran don't meet that criteria. Curry does though.

If you're a kid looking to an athlete as a role model, it just means you didn't have a father in your life. In which case, infidelity is a lesser crime than abandonment. Did you have a daddy?

That's probably the only thing I respect about Kobe. Seeing how bad he is just shows you how easy he made it look. He had to work so god damn hard to get that good. Even though he's a big time chucker he was one of the best tough shot makers ever.
