Some of my favorite movies of all time come from the 90's. Jurassic Park. T2. I've probably seen the Matrix 25 times, it's a good movie I'm not saying it isn't. But I can see why it wouldn't catch on to other generations. The big black trench coat wardrobe and greasy slicked back hair with shades flaunted throughout the Matrix movies was definitely a 90's/early '00's emo fad.

I didn't take credit away from the movie. I simply pointed out some reasons why the current gen might not be chomping at the bit to see it. Back when I was in high school, which wasn't but a few years ago, it was plainly obvious that everyone was familiar with and appreciated the Matrix. It made its way into the pop cultural bloodline extremely quickly, and it has stayed there ever since.

The Matrix is a widely recognized as a cinematic milestone (I believe Quentin Tarantino has called it his favorite film of all time). It also has to be one of the most re-watchable films of all time - I am never not psyched to see it on cable.

Everybody loved the freeway scene, but not the rest of the movie. People even tried looking past the horrible CGI in the big fight against 100 Smiths, but people gave up because it took too much effort. Part 3 as a whole was hot garbage though.
