View Full Version : Most kids growing up today have never seen the Matrix

And many who finally do think it's boring and shit.

There are 16 year olds alive today who are older than the Matrix.

What a world, what a world.

Instead of being the Star Wars of it's generation, the Matrix has gone on to become more like the Total Recall of its generation.

I mean... It kind of represents that whole emo wears a black trench coach to school and nobody understands them generation. Of course it's going to be looked at as a nerdy cult movie in the future. Like the Crowe. A lot of people look back on their time of being fans of the Matrix as a dark time of their lives.

Most people who make references to the movie the Matrix now post on 4chan and talk about their inability to speak to women.

Your inability to give me credit as an individual makes me cringe.

Some of my favorite movies of all time come from the 90's. Jurassic Park. T2. I've probably seen the Matrix 25 times, it's a good movie I'm not saying it isn't. But I can see why it wouldn't catch on to other generations. The big black trench coat wardrobe and greasy slicked back hair with shades flaunted throughout the Matrix movies was definitely a 90's/early '00's emo fad.

I'm not saying it isn't a classic or a good movie. I'm just saying a lot of kids alive today haven't seen it. It hasn't captured the imagination of generations like Star Wars did. Hardly anyone thinks it's cool to like the matrix anymore. Dressing up like Matrix characters is considered one of the most absolutely nerdy things that anyone can do.

Talking to Cavs bruh.

Trenchcoat and shades?

The primary point of Matrix is the whole fake computer simulation program, the red pill, and the great action scenes. That interested people for years to come from all walks of life!

Wardrobe is secondary at best. My apologies on singling you out for the 90s; didn't know you had love for those other films

I didn't take credit away from the movie. I simply pointed out some reasons why the current gen might not be chomping at the bit to see it. The Matrix movies have at least to some extant become socially tied with trench coat wearing losers - not that it should. A jameerthefear type of person would not like the movie as much as you did. Again I'm not saying it should be that way but it just sort of is.

I'm 31 and the Matrix is overrated. It was an enjoyable blockbuster, but it wasn't a great film. The sequels are horrible. If you thought that bringing this up made you look mature and intelligent...you are wrong...which should be familiar for a cockroach like you.

I don't think that ever looked cool dude. What made it cool was their kicking ass, learning like 10 martial arts, and flying across the room/up and down walls and shit. Also, dodging bullets.

Not their effing coats.

I was what, 10 or 11 when i saw the Matrix, and i remember it being pretty exciting and novel - it was flashy and new, and the coats had nothing to do with that. Though i do remember always laughing at Morpheus's stick-on shades.

Boring ?

I could show kids and teens the first movie and they would excited. The effects at the time were great and I would still like to see the series go forward one day.

There's still a lot of potential there.

Fully agreed. I was in HS when that movie came out, and anybody who tried to dress like that was ridiculed, not thought of as cool, yet everybody loved the movie.

Back when I was in high school, which wasn't but a few years ago, it was plainly obvious that everyone was familiar with and appreciated the Matrix. It made its way into the pop cultural bloodline extremely quickly, and it has stayed there ever since.

The Matrix is a widely recognized as a cinematic milestone (I believe Quentin Tarantino has called it his favorite film of all time). It also has to be one of the most re-watchable films of all time - I am never not psyched to see it on cable.

Original series, maybe, but the Prequels trashed the overall quality of the franchise as a whole.

I remember The special effects being awe inspiring.

also the Movie had the whole " Techie" Internet vibe Just as the real " Internet" was Taking off...so it resonated with a lot of people. ( downloading martial art programs to your brain)

as far as the Trench Coats.....late 90's / early 00's...everyone was wearing Black/ Black Leather all the time...

the whole colorful, soft pallet of hughes that everyone wears today...was far less common in the 90's.

all black everything.....everyday was cool.

**** haters man, Matrix was an awesome movie as a standalone title. The sequels really hurt it's brand, which is why it's not cool not like it anymore, but to me it's a top 10 movies of all time.

I remember watching it for the first time. Everyone was talking about it and making references to the movie. It's one of my favorite sci-fi movies but you would have had to see it at the time to appreciate its innovations. I actually enjoyed the following movies too. The freeway scene from reloaded was amazing to see as a kid.

Everybody loved the freeway scene, but not the rest of the movie. People even tried looking past the horrible CGI in the big fight against 100 Smiths, but people gave up because it took too much effort. Part 3 as a whole was hot garbage though.

Just saw a video showing an awesome detail of that scene. If you look closely, many of the people are in it are duplicates, kind of like what you would see in a video game.
