This might just be my final straw.

1.) A man who sold over one million albums to other human beings fervently believes the Earth is flat.

3.) Said rap artist takes offense to the scientist's, err, science, so CUTS A DISS TRACK ABOUT A SCIENTIST essentially calling him an evil Freemason

4.) Respected scientist THEN fires back with a retaliation diss record through a family member who apparently raps even though he sounds like Asher Roth but 40x cornier

Men knew the earth was round before the Peloponnesian War. It has nothing to do with pictures astronauts and satellites take, we know this because if you see a ship coming from far off, it looks like it's coming out of the water and the first thing you see is the sails.

BOB, like most people today, have probably never looked out at the ocean for more than 5 seconds and so could not be expected to know this. So this is just modern paranoia (it seems like almost everything we're ever told is a lie, if you listen to enough chattering mouths in the media) coupled with a mind that is susceptible to it.

It's hard to believe this came from the guy who made "Don't Feel So Good" and "Airplanes"... listening to the songs again though, it makes sense.

Smarts are no defense against paranoia and conspriracist thinking. Neither are politics. Conspiracists exist both left, right and center. It's a flaw in how the human brain works and we are all prone to it to one degree or another. We love, love, love, to find patterns and make connections and in hindsight, it's very easy to make connect random things into a predetermined pattern. You actually have to train yourself in critical thinking and actively question how you know something to avoid believing in conspiracies to some degree.
Oliver Stone is a smart dude. His JFK is technically and artistically, an amazing film. As history or ethics, it's a steaming pile of horseshit.

The Flat Earth Theory BoB is espousing is not something he came up with, it's very developed and hundreds of years old and updated for modern times.

With musical people, you really want them just making music. I like hearing guys rap about being depressed and confused because it's honest. I like hearing guys rap about how poor they've been and how oppressed they feel because that's honest too. And if you want to rap about how great you are and how much money you have, go ahead.

But when a musician starts talking about stuff that *CAN'T* be honest because it's not based in knowledge they can be expected to have (ancient history, political stuff), well... it makes for crappy music.

Just make music, B.O.B. If you're going to pursue knowledge and wisdom, you need to realize that we depend on various authorities for most of the knowledge and wisdom we claim is our own. And some authorities are more trustworthy than others (scientists are more trustworthy than fanatical-sounding anonymous nobodies on the internet, for example.)

That's not to say authorities aren't sometimes wrong, or sometimes lying to you. But they're more likely to be right than wrong, and if you're going to claim they're wrong you need a really good reason.
