Following is a statement from Lakers President and co-owner Jeanie Buss regarding the announcement that Shaquille O'Neal will be honored with a statue at STAPLES Center. The statue will be unveiled on a date yet to be determined during the 2016-17 season:

"We look forward to having Shaq join the other legends who have been honored with statues at STAPLES Center," said Buss. "He is a giant not only in size, but also in stature and in what he accomplished as a Laker. Shaq literally broke the ground for the site, and was hugely responsible for not only getting STAPLES Center built, but for making it one of the most successful and famous arenas in the world. It's an honor that is well deserved."

He said if he had to choose a team that would represent him in the Hall of Fame, it'd be the Lakers over the Magic.

It looks like one side of the backboard is connected to the building while the rest of it, plus Shaq, is left dangling in the air. It has to be high enough so that idiots can't jump and hang onto the statue, that could lead to something horrific happening.
