The Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi), also known as the Kodiak brown bear or the Alaskan grizzly bear or American brown bear, is the largest subspecies of the brown bear.

They have lived isolated from other bears for over 10,000 years. In the wild, Kodiak bears are found only on the islands in the Kodiak Archipelago off the south coast of Alaska. They are believed to have been isolated there since the last Ice Age over 10,000 years ago. Because of the abundance of food on Kodiak Island, they have smaller home ranges than any other brown bears and have no need to defend territories.

The average adult male Kodiak bear stands five feet at the shoulder when on all four and can measure over 10 feet when standing upright. The average male weighs from 310 to 360 kgs. Between the springtime when they leave hibernation and the fall, their weight can increase by more than 50 percent. Females are about 20 percent smaller in size and weigh 30 percent lighter than males.

Kodiak bears vary in color from beige to dark brown. Although there are Kodiak bears on record for having dimensions measuring larger than that of the polar bears', the polar bear on average is still by far the largest species of bear alive. Bears that die of natural causes live to be 20 to 25 years on average.

Vampire Squid, Yeti Crab and Mantis Shrimp are interesting sea critters

Wolves are really cool, to me, I can't remember if you've covered any of the primates yet.

I didn't know Kodiak's don't defend territory, I'm curious how hostile they are then. Not that I'd want to approach a wild Kodiak.

Animal of the day should be the Siberian Tiger. Every day.

Did you know they have a low frequency growl that freezes the prey seconds before the Tiger attacks? Perfect predator. Has never taken an L.

Another animal that would get MAULED by a Siberian tiger.

Most people agree a tiger would not stand chance against a North American brown bear. There have been 44 documented encounters between Asiatic brown bears and tigers, the Tigers have killed the bears 22 times, bears have killed the Siberian Tiger 12 times. Most of the bears killed were either females, juveniles or in hibernation. However up 35% of Siberian Tiger kills are lost to brown bears who track them and bully them out of a meal after the tiger kills it.

Then you have to take into account the difference between the Asiatic bear size and a Kodiak. The average male Asiatic bear weighs between 250-350 kg. The average Alaskan Grizzly weighs between 350-635kg. The largest Asiatic bear was just over 8ft tall and 1080 lbs. The largest North American brown bear stood 10ft and weighed 2300lbs. A North American Grizzly is simply too big for even the largest Siberian Tigers.

Siberians are the Lebrons of the animal kingdom aka the false king.

All the potential to be the best, but they can't put it all together.
