6 time NBA champion
1 time NBA league MVP
2 time NBA allstar game MVP
10 time 1st team all NBA
2 time 2nd team all NBA
13 time NBA allstar
8 time league leader in assists
8 time league leader in assists per game
18/5/8 career average
19/5/9 career playoff average

they said he didn't shoot a high enough field goal percentage though

even though it was around league average at the time

so one of the top 20 careers of all time ( and if done today would be top 6-7 ) is now barely top 40 because he played in an inferior era

this amuses me because bill russells field goal percentage is equally sh*t for his position. and cousys playmaking was nearly as important as russells defense...

yet i wouldn't be surprised if russell was in espns top 3 by the end of this

shameful

just... utterly... pathetic

the man isnt even dead yet so this will be the last thing he sees before he goes in the next few years

87 years old and getting shat on by espn...just wow

if youre making these rankings based on how theyed compete against guys today then don't even bother putting the old bastard on your list at all

either judge people on what they did during their time and the level they were at compared to their competition. or don't judge them at all

:applause: :applause: :applause: top 17-20 in my book. hope he reads message boards

Fantastic post, people get degraded for their level of competition way too much, it's not their fault they played when they did

I don't even blame this on ESPN, necessarily. I blame it on our video game generation that treats basketball like some weird algorithm. Basketball has turned into a world full of perpetual numbers and percentages.

Also:

Too much emphasis on "image"
The BIGGEST FLOPPERS in the NBA have the most TV endorsements (Griffin, CP3, Bron)

Not enough emphasis on winning. This generation sees it as an accomplishment for a team to make it to the finals consecutively. They don't care if that team gets curbed stomped ruthlessly every time.

When Iverson took the sixers to the finals to go against arguably the strongest duo in NBA history, no one was labeling him as some iconic legend upon losing. He was outmatched, but it was just an L. So many excuses in this generation of basketball

I don't get this either. Bill Russell gets praised like a GOAT candidate while his hall of fame teammates, most of whom were more important on the offensive end of the floor, are treated like dirt. If Cousy is 39 then Bill isn't top 10.

I think even the biggest Cousy hater should struggle to put him below the 20 spot.
This is just ludicrous.

Hmmm same amount of MVPs and one more ring than Kobe

According to OPs formula he should be ranked above Kobe

The best post that I've ever seen Kenneth make. And it's the only time I'm actually glad I read his post.

Backhanded compliment? Sure. But still a compliment.
