Of course Curry would have better defensive stats if Klay is always guarding his man.

Let's keep the meltdowns and trolling to the other thousand threads on ISH. This is for mature basketball discussion on how Curry is rated a better defender than Klay and how Curry is ranked #1 through RPM and Klay is ranked #84.

Klay has to guard elite offensive players so he gets torched while Curry hides on nobodies.

Austin Rivers shitting on Jimmy Butler.

Jimmy Butler
O 4.38
D -0.09
T 4.29

Austin Rivers
O -2.68
D -1.96
T -4.68

:biggums:

FYI If you didn't know, you cannot use RPM to compare players who don't play a similar amount of minutes.

Austin Rivers plays 22 minutes a night while Butler plays almost double that at 38.

I meant to post that in the Bulls Clippers thread. :oldlol:

I don't know enough about the stat to draw any conclusions.

But... is it factual that Klay generally guards the more difficult matchup, while Curry is "hidden" on the weaker one? Does that affect the rating?

That doesn't show if Curry is a better defender than Thompson truly. It just shows that when Curry is on the floor, then the team is better defensively. But it could be different rotation. Thompson could be on the floor when they lack defensive players in order to help, so they won't get killed. I'm not saying that's the case, but it's a possibility. There other indications that show Curry is doing better than Thompson tho.

Check this out:

Curry's DFGA is 10.9. That means that's the average shot attempts that he defends. His DFG% is 39.2%. His normal opponents FG% is 43%. So, the diff is 3.8 better than the norm. He's great it seems.

In comparison to Klay Thompson, his DFGA is 10.6. His DFG% is 43.3. His normal opponents FG% is 43.5%. That's only 0.2 better than the norm.

This is all from nba.com League Player Tracking Defense stats:
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/defense/#!/?sort=D_FGA&dir=1

It's going to change from the time of this post, but that's how it is currently.

Interesting. If you have been watching many Golden State games this season you will see that all these advanced stats verify what we have seen through the Eye Test. Thompson has struggled all year long on the defensive end while Curry has been thriving.

So much for advanced stats.

Of course, the "advanced stats" don't tell us that Curry is assigned the opposing team's weakest offensive player, and conversely, Klay is guarding the best offensive guard.

Nor do they show that Curry's teammates pick up the slack because they HAVE to.

Curry is being hidden game-after-game, and has been all season long.

The reality has been...he has no grasp of defense...at all. He wanders around aimlessly (which accounts for his steals...he stumbles into them); he gets brutalized by bigger guards; and looks like he is standing in quick-sand against the faster ones. He can't fight thru screens, nor does he play any help defense (unlike his teammates, who have to constantly help against his assignment.)

He is flat out...a HUGE LIABILITY on the defensive end.

In fact, it has become downright embarrassing.

So, you can safely flush this "advanced stat" down the toilet.

if anyone can find one clip of westbrook scoring on curry in the first half of game 4, I will never post on ISH again

p.s. while you search for the clip that isn't there you can watch klay get burnt every time :oldlol:

Ironically Draymond finished with the best RPM in the league

RPM isn't straight +/-

RPM is a mixture of RAPM and PER

Draymond's raw assist totals inflated his RPM

On any other team Draymond doesn't get half the assists he does in Golden State

Draymond is effectively "leaching" off Curry's RPM

And let us not forget this gem ( http://deadspin.com/draymond-green-gets-it-1756238722 )
