right now? 1.

If kd leads the thunder past SAS, GSW and Cleveland he'll have beaten more champions than bron did in his entire career.

Titles without him being an MVP level player would not get him to lebron's level. Lets just say I don't think it's possible.

All Durant needs is 1, maybe 2. You have to take into consideration LeBald technically only has 2.5*. Plus Durant's championships will be far less tainted because in this case he has to duel a team just as stacked as his to win it all. While LeBald won his through lesser competition ,flopping, injuries and refs.

He can win 7 and still not pass Lebron. Lebron is a top 3-5 player of all time, and Kd simply isn't that good.

rings won't be enough. KD needs at least one year where he has a lebron 09/13 type year. A peak that's usually considered top 5 all time. It's not going happen with the Warriors unless Curry drops off however.

Reality = As it is? Meaning as a guy who just went into fetal position joining the team 1 month after being destroyed by them, the team that came of the most wins in nba history and won the championship and were 1 minute away from winning back to back.. without him.. he can even "dnp" entire playoffs he will still be given rings... and you know he aint ever gona be the man there (curry is).... Not even 109 will do it... forget it...

Fantasy = As the man, alpha, mvp/fvmp? Taking the command and humiliating everybody left and right (including lebron) with epic performances? He will need a total of 4/4 rings/fmvps... with 5 mvps... but then that means he is also #2 all-time and about to pass MJ... again, forget it...

Just, forget it...

Durant's ceiling is probably squeezing into the top 10 list. And he'll need to be the warriors clear #1 to get there, with 2-3 rings.

Curry has a better chance to get into the top 10 list though, as he'll be their first option.

2, 4, 6?
Well if LeBron needs 1 more MVP and 3 more rings just to tie Jordan

Then for Durant to pass LeBron, he'd need like

4x more MVP
And 4x more rings

To surpass King James.

He'd need to win against a Lebron led team, while he's still in his prime, twice and win the head to head convincingly - win 2 more against whomever after that. Then get some more MVPs and get more scoring titles.

I think he would need 4 Titles and 4 FMVP's. Probably needs at least 2 more MVP's and at least a 3-4 year stretch where he's the undisputed best player in the league. Not impossible I guess, but highly improbable.

4 year difference and lebron has accomplished more in team success and stats collectively. Also impact.

Question would be when does Durant surpass dwyane wade all time?

Exactly what I was gonna post. He's gotta surpass the likes of Wade/Dirk/KG before he moves on to Kobe/Duncan/Shaq/LeBron

It would obviously take more than titles. The current resume gap is too big. To even be in the discussion with Lebron he'd need at least 1-2 more regular season MVP's, unless he runs off like 4-5 straight titles and FMVP's. Highly unlikely. Durant's realistic ceiling is probably top 10-15. Lebron is considered by many if not most to be top 5. There's just too much ground for Durant to make up, not to mention the fact that Lebron is still an elite player and adding to his resume.

Wow are people really ignoring that Lebron has at least 5 seasons better than Kd's best? Lol. Unless he reaches peak Lebron level and sustains it for several seasons, it just won't happen. Wow are posters dumb.

Yes, for the OP to even ask this question is kinda foolish. I guess this is what happens in the pre-season on a basketball forum.

If Durant was 23, he'd have a shot at improving his game and adding to his peak significantly.

But Durant is 28. It's over. We've likely seen peak Durant or close to it. Durant will never be a top 5 GOAT. He will be lucky to get into the top 10. He'll probably end up at around top 12-15.

Not to mention KD has already peaked. He's actually in some ways on the decline. Probably one of the deciding factors in even going to GS.

LeBron's 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013 seasons are all better than KD's best season.

Hell even both of their seasons in 2014 were comparable and that was Durant at his absolute best ever.

Durant's 2014 regular season is on par with any of LeBron's regular seasons. Perhaps 2010 and 2013 LeBron was a shade better.

Obviously the separation comes in the playoffs when Durant has regularly underperformed, and LeBron's 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2016 performances are clearly better than any of Durant's, with 2014 and 2015 arguably better too.

His defense is overated actually. We know what Jason Terry did to him, but if you take a closer look, you'll see that seeing is believing

The fact that Kobe fans still think Lebron hasn't passed kobe is so hilarious and expected at the same time
