Rudy Gobert has been hurt. People seem pretty down on Hassan Whiteside's defense. NO-ONE sticks out to me on any of the Top-8 Eastern Conference teams, and on the West I can think Draymond (only based off of last year), Kawhi (already DPOY), and maybe Marc Gasol/DeAndre Jordan.
Who do you guys got?

Do you really think Timmy can win it this year though? I'm not doubting his impact on defense but his mpg definitely hurts his chances. And someone said LeBron, while I love the man (and then some), I'd say his chances are beyond slim. Only in his early years in Miami did he really garner any serious consideration for the award.

Gobert was a beast last year but idk how well he's been this year.

Would be dope if Whiteside won it.

Kawhi, Dray.

The fact that the Heat are better when he's not playing probably eliminates him from the discussion.

Hmmm, Gotta go with Kevin Love on this one.

I know you don't mean that

LeBron James defensive ability is actually good this year. He has the stats to back it up, and if you see the games, he puts in the hustle more so than he did last year. I think his one on one defense is actually one of the best this year judging from Dfg%. I don't think he is DPOY, but he stepped up his defense.

It's Green, Kawhi or Duncan. But Duncan minutes hurt him.

In Defensive box plus/minus, Duncan is the best in the league. So his team count on him and Kawhi a lot with the defense it seems. Again, his minutes will probably hurt him, so he most likely won't get it.

Bogut is also great at the defensive end, but he plays less minutes than Duncan.

Ignoring minutes, it's like:

Duncan
Green
Bogut
Kawhi

Hassan Whiteside is a honorable mention.

I feel like it's more like an effort thing with him. When he wants to, he can legit shutdown the paint. When he's locked in defensively, literally no one can get a shot off in the paint or anywhere close to him. It generally feels like he's only playing for the upcoming contract. However, his PNR defense is weak.

Just like last year, nobody stands out to me, would like to see Draymond Green win it though.

1. Green
2. Kawhi
3. Whiteside

Wrong. He's inconsistent, but there are games when he completely shuts down the paint, and that is when Miami are at their best. He's still very new to the NBA though, so not really surprising.

That's wierd. Watching the Games you could see players don't even attempt to drive when he's in the game at times and he alters plenty of other shots.

its jimmy butler's to lose. most improved last year.....he has improved this year again but he cant win most improved again and he isn't in the mvp race so the only other way to acknowledge his improvement from last season to this one is defensive player of the year and he has been playing some stout defense

Duncan, Kawhi, Green and Jordan all have a case. Personally I'd go with Duncan, mostly because it's a damn travesty that he's never won.

Timmy D for DPOY just like how Kobe got his 2008 MVP.

Lifetime achievement. Get it done, Mr. Silver!

That defensive shot chart someone posted of Draymond up last week was incredible. Allowing something like only 38% FG at attempts at the rim for the season.

He's so versatile and crucial to that team. It's his award to lose, and the only one close is Kawhi.
