You are showing an extreme example. It would be like me showing some burned down store owned by a Muslim after say 9/11 and saying "See how hospitable New Yorkers are."

I lived in NY most of my life and compared to other parts of the country New Yorkers aren't as hospitable for better or worst. Personally I prefer it that way since I tend to more introverted and like to go on with my business and to be left alone. And IMO New Yorkers tend to mind their own business and if you approach them for help they tend to be helpful. Southerners tend to be more open and friendly. The type that will strike up conversations with strangers and what not, and would probably be more prone to help people with a flat tire. Disclaimer I'm using mass generalizations.
