It's a sad sight to see him become just a mediocre player

He was always overrated. He had a nice stroke so everyone expected him to be an iso hero alpha etc when he went to Atlanta, and youre just not gonna win much if youre expecting joe johnson to carry you. It was dumb of people to have that expectations and dumb of him and the hawks to try and fulfill it.

hawks suck.. but joe johnson is an exceptional one on one player, clutch player/shooter, he hasnt been on good enough teams his whole career besides the suns, who had to compete with equally stacked spurs teams..

Hes not a a good number 1 option, but very strong number 3 option, maybe 2 next to an ATG level player.

I agree that JJ was overrated. I think his SG peers Kobe, AI, Vince, T Mac, and Wade would have gotten those Hawks teams to the next level. Not saying they would win a ring. But I think they would have been in a position to make the Finals. With the contract Joe was given, that should have been the expectation.

Even though he put up superstar numbers in given years, he was never really a superstar. He was in that next tier. But in terms of skill level ACROSS BOARD, he was one of the most complete SG's of all time. But being COMPLETE AND GREAT are two different things. Give me the better player over the more complete player!

He has been steadily declining since leaving the Hawks. Even with the Hawks his production was starting to drop. In other words, he's getting older

he doesnt care anymore...the most luckiest player (besides arenas) to get a massive contract twice just cause there was nobody else

Honestly, he never really cared. He was not a leader, and he didnt dominate in a way that elevated his team.

He put up the standard "20 points on a bad or average team" and people got carried away as usual with the star label. He had a lot of talent, but it never translated to impact, even when he got his stats. He just didnt have heart and hustle. Which are much more important than a pretty fadeaway or crossover.

It was evident he was all about the money (which I can't blame) when he left a elite Suns team to chase $$. He was a very talented and skilled player but never had it in him to live up to the money. People correlated his salary to him being a top echelon player but he was always fools gold. You can never win with a guy like him monopolizing that high of % of cap space. I agree, didn't see the passion and his stats were not enough for the salary.

Agreed. Dude needs someone to get him a couple of open looks a game and he'd still average ~15 on good efficiency. That's actually pretty good for an SG who's 34.

Was it last season or the year before that? The dude has 2 consecutive game winners, IIRC.

He's had a GREAT career. Did anyone expect him to approach 20,000 career points when he was drafted?
