I love watching basketball where the defenders aren't ridiculously spaced-out and the paint wide open - it forces players to have more passing and scoring skill - passing and scoring is harder without spacing, than WITH spacing.

It's easy to see why the 3 pointers/layups strategy currently exists.. 3-point shooting spaces out defenders, which makes it easier SHIFT those defenders and get open shots/layups - 3-point shooting ultimately makes ball movement more effective at getting open shots/layups.

In addition to easier ball movement, the spaced out defenders leads to wider lanes for easier penetration.. Spacing simply makes for an easier game, with less skill needed on offense.
