The format and presentation will probably be cringe and take a lot away from the actual dunks. Even players don't get hyped for the dunk contest, last year the only noteworthy players I saw in the audience were James Harden and Russell Westbrook. There used to be years when every star player had to be in the crowd watching the dunk contest.

players seem funny about doing dunks that have been done before which leads to too many props. also last seasons format was terrible. oladipo singing was cringe (even though he can sing what's the point in a dunk contest)

Also, for all the crap we give Dwight Howard, he had some really nice moments in the contest as well (in addition to some cringe, but that had more to do with Dwight Howard being Dwight Howard than him being a big guy). His double tap off-the-backboard dunk is wildly underrated and his sticker dunk was nice too.

All that said, even as a Pistons fan, I'm uncertain about Drummond's prospects. I never really got the feeling that he's a fan of the dunk nor a vehicle for innovation. So I worry there'll be some plain Jane type of stuff. But I'd be cool if he can surprise me. He can reach pretty high in the sky, so that's a start.

Drummond, from a dunking standpoint, hits me more Dwight Howard-ish. But I don't know if he has the explosion Howard had; perhaps his reach will help?

This might be one of the best dunk contests in a while, and just because you don't know who those guys are (i'm really surprised to witness something like that on the nba forum), doesn't mean they aren't special.

Aside of Wiggins, Deandre, Gerald Green, these guys (except Drummond?) are the best you can get as guys making never seen or at least done in the nba dunk contest dunks.

It is not that hard to predict. AaG though did a hell lot better than people expected.

iirc, there was a vote predicting slam dunk champion and Will the Thrill got more votes than AaG. People probably haven't seen Gordon in action as much.
