Easy to forget just how dominant he was before those back injuries. Rockets would've won a ring for sure last season if he was still Orlando Dwight.

Sure was. Sadly, lots of people just forgot how dominant he was.

He dominated based primarily on his strength/athleticism being superior to other centers at that time. Sadly, he never bothered to improve his skills enough to make him very effective as he lost athleticism.

Give credit to Magic and the coaching staff. They put together a good team that complemented each other perfectly

He averaged 15 ppg in the 2009 NBA Finals. The Eastern conference just made him look better than he actually was.

He was never a dominant player in a vaccuum. Relative to his horrible competition at center yeah but thats not sayin much

this. Dumbond is only 22 and already as good as Dwight ever was defensively. It wont be long before he passes Dwight as an overall player. His postgame is already better

Dwight has 3 seasons of better DRTG than Drummond has this season (which is his best so far). Dwight was a 3 time DPoY. Dwight did that while covering the mistakes of some pretty bad defenders (because they were shooters who could space the floor for him on O).

its funny how Dwight was suppose to revolutionize the center position and he did but not in the way others had intended he would. He was suppose to be Ben Wallace on crack with the skill set/dominance of shaq.

The reason why I still say he still revolutionized the position is if you look around the league you see a lot of baby dwights now...Jordan,mcgee,whiteside etc. guys super athletic that can cover ground but lack any real offensive skill.

I started a topic about this 2 weeks ago. Howard WAS the 2nd best player in the league, and could carry a team. Those Orlando teams, weren't that great but they were legitimate EASTERN CONFERENCE final contenders solely because of him.

The one year Dwight showed development, he averaged 23 points

He should of been a 25+ PPG like Shaq said

It was the little things he didn't do

The skillset

Drummond isn't even remotely close to peak Dwight defensively. I'm not exaggerating, Dwight is several levels above him on D. Drummond gets wrecked by literally every center that is even somewhat big and skilled, and his awareness/defensive IQ are childlike. Dude is closer to mediocre defensively than being better than a guy who has a strong case as the best defensive anchor of his generation.

Watch a Pistons game. Drummond is seriously one of the most overrated "anchors" in the game today. KCP, Morris, and even RJ at times put together a sick perimeter defense but Drummond is really nothing special at all. Only reason his impact stats are so skewed positively is because Detroit runs a great team defense and he has Aron freaking Baynes backing him up.

agree 100% and calling him mediocre is probably giving him more credit than he deserves. His awareness, rotations, etc are all below level

Actually, Drummond is terrible defensively. He rebounds well, but his defense is very weak.
