According to Wilt, "But my teammates wanted me to do it, too. They started feeding me the ball even when they were wide open."

"From accounts of how it went down, the Warriors spent almost the entire fourth quarter fouling to get the ball back and force-feeding Chamberlain the ball,"

Wilt's teammates were INTENTIONALLY FOULING because they wanted to conserve more time on the clock for extra possessions for Wilt :facepalm
On the other hand, Kobe team's was getting blown, but 81BE carried his team back to defeat the Raptors

"When Kobe Bryant dropped an 81-spot against the Toronto Raptors, he shot 28-of-46 from the field. That's 17 shots fewer than Chamberlain took on his legendary night. "

On a side note: Wilt went up against 6 10' Center for about 20 minutes, then
6'9 ROOKIE for the rest of the game :facepalm

With six minutes remaining, the Knicks began intentionally fouling any Warrior except Chamberlain, keeping the ball out of the center's hands.[21][50][51] New York also began moving the ball slowly and using as much of the shot clock as possible to leave fewer opportunities for Chamberlain to score.[52] Effectively, they played the opposite of what a normal club would do if they faced a deficit, willingly giving up many easy points instead of making attempts to rally back

And, can you imagine how many more points Wilt would have scored had he faced the 6-7 Ben Wallace, or the 6-6 Chuck Hayes? Maybe 150?

Not sure if you are serious...but that "freakish activity" was banned before Wilt's first varsity college game by a committee headed by none other than Tex Winter.

However, had Wilt been allowed to do that in his NBA career, he likely would shot close to 100% from the line.

Wallace have had no chance defending an early-to-mid 60's Wilt. Way too quick, athletic, and skilled.

Probably as many ppg as he averaged against Russell in that span...or around 35 ppg. With games in the 50's and 60's.

Carried team to defeat who ? Raptors were euroleague level ..

Wilt played against worst team of the Early 60's and Their Center was injured . Wilt's 100 isn't important to me , like Kobe's 81 .

Kobes 81 is undoubtedly greater. Context matters and the lakers needed his points to come back after being down hard early

Wilts is suspect. As is David Robinsons 70 whatever thats the biggest farce scoring wise in NBA history

Wilt had back-to-back games, on two consecutive nights, of 73-36 and 62-28 against Bellamy and Russell, as well....and on a 60% shooting. Or a two game streak against two of the greatest centers in NBA history...in which Chamberlain averaged 67.5 ppg, on a .600 FG%, and 32.0 rpg.

And I found this fascinating...

Two nights after Chamberlain's 100-point outburst, Philadelphia played New York at Madison Square Garden. Imhoff stayed out of foul trouble this time and guarded Chamberlain almost the entire game.

"I played my heart out against him," Imhoff recalls. "I fouled out with a minute and half to go, and I got a standing ovation from the crowd. That's how hard I worked, and they knew it.

"He had 54 points. Isn't that something?"

And for the record, it was actually 58 points.

Oh, and it was the fifth game in a five game streak in which Chamberlain had scored a total of 351 points...

70.2 ppg.

Off-topic, but regarding Wilt's play against his peers, ...

Many observers rank Chamberlain's '66-67 season as the greatest of his career, but IMHO, his 65-66 season was as dominant.

In any case, Psileas pointed this out a couple of years ago, and on a topic of Wilt's "competition", ...Chamberlain had a three game streak in his 65-66 season, against Thurmond and Russell (two against Nate, and the third against Russell)...in which he did this...

12/20/65:

Thurmond: 13 points, on 6-16 FG/FGA, 26 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Wilt: 45 points, on 17-32 FG/FGA, 21 rebounds, and 2 assists.

12/26/65:

Thurmond: 17 points, on 7-22 FG/FGA, 19 rebounds, and 0 assists.
Wilt: 33 points, on 13-22 FG/FGA, 30 rebounds, 8 assists, and 16 blocks

12/28/65:

Russell: 11 points, on 4-14 FG/FGA, 17 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Wilt: 31 points, on 11-25 FG/FGA, 40 rebounds, 6 assists.

Total domination.

Wilt was good, great even, but he was no Kobe Bryant.

How many titles do you think Wilt would have carried Kobe to?

A prime Chamberlain, and going up against a stumble-bum Smits in his last season; a 35 year old Mutombo; whom he would be allowed to steam-roll; and a 6-11 cement-shoed McCulloch who was a career 6 ppg scorer in his four seasons in the NBA?
