Funny but my family and some friends got together to watch all three of the prequels for the hell of it and we said the same exact thing. Shit sounds like Vietnamese or Tagalog or something.

The Ewoks are actually Filipino and speak Tagalog. Apparently The Ewoks took over the part of the Wookies (notice the similarities in their names?)
Part of the reason was hiring Filipinos cut on costume costs and accepted a paycut.
