I love watching Boston play, they play what I consider the right way. They buy into Brad Stevens and even though talent isn't oozing from the team, they make up for that in effort. Avery Bradley is the prime example of that.
Doc, for all his skill with getting veteran players to buy in, sucked eggs at developing new guys. He used Avery as a defensive guy to take ball pressure off Rondo so he could rebound more and that was it. Avery took it upon himself to develop the offensive game that he's been displaying the last couple seasons and it's been a rocky go. It took Brad Stevens arriving to make him into a true 2 while also letting him maintain the defensive skillset he's known for.

Phil Jackson used to do that with Barkley because he liked to split the defenders. I recall Pippen and Grant locking arms so he couldn't split them. I guess Phil did it with the Lakers when Lue was there as well.

this cavs team is so frustrating.

love is playing better, but it never feels like its gonna last, even when hes off to good starts. he eventually miss some threes, miss some bunnies at the basket, and then stop trying on defense. that pump fake to the dunk early on was great though, we need him to stay aggressive like that.

he keeps getting pushed off his spot at the elbow too, he needs to be tougher with the ball.

for all the talk of accountability and how this cavs team is playing harder, theres still too many plays like the one last in the 4th quarter, where lebron lets turner get by him on the fast break, never stopping the ball, and going for the chase down block (which hes too late on), rather than just playing real, honest defense.

its so frustrating when you see the warriors, with nothing to prove, just playing hard, playing smart every game. while the cavs play like a team that thinks they can just switch it on, like they dont think they need to run plays and take every game serious. lebron, kyrie and love all like to coast at times, and the team takes after their star players. curry and draymond, on the other hand play hard and play smart pretty much every time out, and the warriors are a much more professional team as a result.

I hope the celtics get a stud too, they deserve a bit of luck for rebuilding while actually trying to win games. stevens would find a way to get simmons the ball where he can be effective, in a system with good ball movement where he can showcase his passing.

and hes only 39, you gys are lucky to have him as a coach. i dont wanna be too hard on lue, but the coaching disparity was huge last night. the celtics play very good defense, but the cavs still dont move the ball. once things slow down, their instinct is immediately to just go to stagnant pick and rolls and isos.

or when the cavs got a mismatch in the post, like all the smart teams these days, the celtics front the post, deny the entry pass, and zone up the rest of the court, taking away anything easy. the cavs just let you enter the ball and let their smaller defender get abused down low.

shump has the fastest hands in the league on defense, but on that game winner, he goes for the steal, when he could have just contested the shot, and make bradley hit a tough shot, instead of gambling, and giving up an open three. props to bradley for the shot though, hes the perfect modern role player, a good jump shooter, and a hound on defense who doesnt need the ball.
