View Full Version : Out of the 11 years Kobe was a 1st option (2005-2016)

He made it out of the 1st round only 5 times
5/11 = 45%
Objectively, this is the real reason Kobe isn't Top 10 material
People on this site like to troll, but deep down subconsciously this is the real reason Kobe isn't considered elite, even Kobe stans know it
Tell me a Top 10 player with a worse track record than this

He wasn't even a CLEAR first option (meaning, most important player) during the Gasol years.
Gasol probably had the greater impact, Kobe just hogged the attention.
When he hasn't had Shaq or Pau, we see what his game is really worth.
And it isn't very much.

First option and best player aren't the same thing.

Agreed
I wanted to throw these Kobe stans a bone so it doesn't look as bad as it does, so I gave him '1st option' for 2009-2012
But if we agree that it was Gasols team during that timeframe, then the record drops to 1/6
If we agree Gasol was the 1st option, then Kobe only made it out of the 1st round once as a 1st option

After 2000 Kobe wasn't the 2nd option on his teams.
You don't lead your team in shot attempts, usage rate and are trusted to take the amount of important shots down the stretch of games that he has if you're the 2nd option.

Shaq took more shots, it's just that he got fouled more so those count as Ft's

FailShaq and Kobe is a unique situation where they were both 1A/1B on offense.
Just like Lebron and Wade in their first year together.
Or Durant and Westbrook.

Yes I agree it was unique
It was the only time in history a "1b" shooting 15% less was taking more FG's than the "1a"
That's not true with LeBron and Durant

I'm teeing off a diff narative but same course
Before Orlando drafted Shaq they were 21-61
With Shaq, 41-41 and then 50-32 the season after that.
His third year, Finals
After Shaq left, Orlando couldn't make it out of the first round
In the 51 games that Shaq played with the Lakers they went 38-13. In the games he missed, the Lakers were 18-13. The team finished 56-26. With Kobe OFF THE BENCH

Out of 6 collusion finals lebron won only 2. With the help of the refs and Ray Allen. Without that? 0 / 6 = 0% :lol

Without Ref's help Kobe would only had 2 ring! Even with all the helps from Lakers FO, Phil, Shaq, Pau and that fool would only had TWO RING IF NOT DAVID STERNS
2 rings! Kobe stans laughing at Lebron as a manufactured star is the biggest joke.

Of those 2 rings he did win, one is remembered as Ray Allen's saving shot. There's nothing memorable about 2012 and he lost in horrible fashion for the other 4 while in collusion mode. Tell me how is that kind of career supposedly top 10? :confusedshrug:

It's really hard to win in this league without a great coach and great help. Kobe suffered the way any all time great would have because of this.
Nobody is above it. Not MJ, not Duncan, not Kareem, not Magic, not Lebron...etc.
You need help to win.
Kobe winning 2 titles and making 3 finals as the leader of his team seems like it's pretty damn good to me.

But he went 2/3 to the Finals. How did Lebron do?

MJ did a lot before pippen....
lebron won a lot before teaming up.....
grow up, bro. it takes a team to win, no 1 player has done it by themselves.

But he went 2/3 to the Finals. How did Lebron do?
Back-to-back seasons with a ring/MVP/Finals MVP....something only Jordan was able to do.
How about another one.... 2012 ring/MVP/Finals MVP/Olympic gold medal....same as above, another thing only Jordan was able to do.
Kobe spent his entire career trying to be like Mike. LeBron never did and still managed to accomplish things only MJ was able to do.
