View Full Version : How old do you want to be before dying?

Honestly, I don't think I want to live in my late 70's, early 80's. Thinking of all the pain and care you'd need. Whether it's medically or not. Just looking at my hands, looking in the mirror and resembling a grape just doesn't seem interesting to me.

I feel like once I make it to 70 I'll be good. Granted, I imagine that will change the older I get.

I know a guy in his seventies who still skis and does serious rock-climbing. It depends on the person obviously, but i think around 80 is when everything goes completely to shit.

Shit starts hitting the fan around 65-70, can only imagine what being 80 would be like.

Good question.

For me personally it all depends on my physical and mental state. I know some seniors who are still remarkably sharp, able bodied, and loving the lives they lead. I've always been a very independent dude so it would kill me if I needed to rely on a PSW or whoever to wipe my ass or complete my daily ablutions. I'd rather be put out of misery if that was the case. Otherwise, let me live...

72 would be good with me but any longer is a fine too.

Any reason why you chose 72 and not 71 or 73?

same here. def want to reach triple digits.

one of our secretaries work as a caretaker(I think) for a 99-year-old lady. She's still functional but forget things easily and can't do daily chores anymore. The secretary just cleans her house, make her meals, do her laundry, etc. The lady still showers herself, stays alone at night and all of that. So she's at least independent as much as she's able to. That's not too bad...

And with the current Technology, and improvement in medicine. We might end up living a longer lifespan.

myman Dresta.

I dunno, it's gonna be a sad day when I can no longer pull a college girl. Sex/virility isn't a huge part of my life but it's because I know it's there. Once it's gone... I mean, think of all of the breaking down the body does before anyone knows.

40-45 you could be starting to get cancer that you won't notice until years later. Your prostate could be starting to be done, you could start getting arthritis. Sure, you're not gonna be hunched over til much later... or pissing like it's just a couple drops, but I kind of think 45-50 is when you cannot ignore 'age' anymore. Just a guess.

If you look at all athletes it seems like 45-50 is when they really start changing. Other people who weren't really using their bodies as much probably age better.

I would be happy to die at 50 if I can finish what I'm trying to get done... but we don't decide when we die. I will prol live to 90.

My grandmother's 82 and she's still sharp as a tack. Good with technology, watches football and baseball still. Teaches bridge, goes the theater and concerts.

If I can have a life like that at her age, I'm cool with hanging around until then...should that be my future; at the end of the day, my longevity is not something I have control over. I don't care what the number is, so long as my life is still filled with love and with people I want to be around.

72 would be good with me but any longer is a fine too.

My grandfather is 72. He still lifts 50 lb bags of dog food and horse oats up on his shoulder, and lifts heavy equipment and machinery. He is also mentally sharp. He's stronger than most 45+ year olds IMO. If I'm like him, I would love to live til 90.

I also have an uncle on my mom's side who is only 61, and he is frail, sickly and mentally shaky. His quality of life is quickly diminishing year by year.

I also used to hunt with a 70 year old guy. He'd be out there setting decoys in muddy floor ponds in 20 degree weather. 6'5 250 lbs, straight backed, steely alert eyes and strong as an ox. I'd be extremely happy to be like this at his age too.

im cool with mid to late 70's unless there's serious medical advances by then and i can live til 120.

Around 3,000

I think after 3,000 i will have finally seen everything there is to see and do everything there is to do. I'll be ready for suicide at that point.

Early 80s. I feel the same way OP. Although, my cousin's grandfather is I think 93 and in great shape with only a few health issues. He still has an active lifestyle.

My grandfathers I think both passed away in their 70s. Grandmother passed away at around 90. My dad's grandmother apparently passed away at 100+.

I would be cool with at least late 70s/early 80s :confusedshrug:

70?

by 2040 humans will easily be reaching triple digits, with some saying we'll reach immortality

i dont think we'll be immortal in 20 years, it sounds totally ridiculous at this point, but it's very likely we'll have largely increased lifespans

i'll be ****ing pissed if i never get to see humans explore our solar system or even come into contact with alien life

As long as I remain physically capable of taking care of myself I am fine with continuing to live regardless of age, appearance, other factors.

Assuming decent health for my age, 90 would be good. I'd rather go sooner though if it means my mind or general functioning is lost.
