Instead of watching guys who just want to maneuver and pander on a quest of personal ambition, we should watch people who don't really care which among them gets elected but just want to actually put the best ideas forward to improve the country.
We're treating politics way too much like a sporting event. This is madness.

Ok, he didn't hear them announce his name over the audience. I barely did the first time as well. This is supposed to be some kind of unthinkable faux pas? A simple miscommunication?
Trust me, these guys aren't the problem in this country. The problem is everyone who wants to eat popcorn and watch debates just to see what kind of awkward moments will happen, instead of discuss with each other the critical issues that will impact US.
Yayy whoopie, it's all some big circus. They came out in the wrong order and tee hee hee, now my party will have better field goal position, Im gonna waive my pom poms and cheer for the blue team!!! Lol stupid other party, real nice job GOP lolzlolzlolzlolz.

So let's forget them and let's figure out what matters to US.
You don't just pick some politicians and say 'ok, now you go make everything good!'
That's just asking to get suckered. That's WHY we get suckered.
But we're not gonna get anywhere if people just stick to their party dogma instead of work with each other to find compromises.

That botched entrance was slapstick at its finest :lol Couldn't have scripted it better, the characterization, the timing, everything was perfect.
Somewhat lost between that and Rubio's "oops" moment was that unbelievable exchange in which candidates debated over what kind of horrific torture methods they'd implement as president... Reminded me of the audience cheering executions last election cycle - the whole unreality of it.

It's more complicated than that.
You can both appreciate the tragicomedy of circus elections and care about the issues... it's not binary.
In fact, forgotten about in all this madness is the fact that this US election is the most substantial in a long time. (Certainly more substantial than 2012)
The plutocratic nature of the US political system is directly being challenged both on the right and left. You rarely if ever see elections tackle the structural properties of the system that produces them.
The extreme level of income inequality is finally on the agenda... And the neoclassical consensus that took over governments in the late 1970s and 1980s is starting to show signs of collapse, which could have world historical consequences.
My only concern is that foreign policy isn't being discussed enough (especially now that Rand Paul is out of the race). There is potential for a real discussion on the fundamentals of the American approach to world affairs since WW2.
Trump, for instance, is challenging the very idea of an American led world order, to be replaced with a policy of strict quid pro quo ("OK, I'll help you - what do I get in return?"). Rubio instead wants to double down on the neoconservative dream of "full spectrum dominance", in which America serves as the benevolent ruler of the world at great financial and human expense. Clinton is inclined to agree with that approach but doesn't outright admit it... It would be good to clarify the position of all candidates on how they envision America's place in the world, particularly Sanders who is prone to punting on that issue. Does he have liberal internationalist or realist instincts? I suspect the latter, but journalists need to ask tougher, more specific questions so he can better reveal himself.

Let's dispel once and for all with this fiction that Obama doesn't know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing.

I don't know if I'd go that far but holy shit did Christie demolish Rubio there. He made him look like a dumbass, and Rubio kept repeating his memorized line after Christie had pointed it out :oldlol: "This notion that Barrack Obama doesn't know what he's doing, he exactly knows what he's doing blah blah blah..."

Losing to Christie in particular is humiliating.
Christie is one of those politicians you shouldn't even have to debate.
You can simply say the word "bridge" every time he opens his mouth, then people remember, and they no longer want to vote for him if they were considering it for a moment.
Fair? Maybe, maybe not. But that's politics - the man is tainted.

I think Ben Carson did quite well and made some very level headed responses.
I particularly liked his humble approach to listening to the military heads on Libya, that none of the politicians are military experts, which is true.
Jeb grew some balls all of sudden
rubio looks a bit too wild with his ideas to be a president.

I'm wondering what effect, if any, Cruz's Carson scandal has on his campaign going forwards. It was nothing less than a lie told to steal votes. Do future voters see that kind of tactic as a reason to support someone else?

For a moment there, as a Dem, I was worried about the prospect of facing off vs Rubio on aesthetics alone vs Clinton/Sanders as Americans usually vote for the younger candidate but my God did Christie expose Rubio as a lightweight :oldlol: I'm feeling much more confident that the Dem nominee would take his lunch money in a one on one debate now.
I wasn't too familiar with Rubio but I did hear that if you rattle him, he tends to lose his cool and isn't good when he isn't in his comfort zone or repeating his rehearsed lines. It'll be interesting to see how much Rubio drops after that horrible performance (if at all). I still think the GOP's best chance is with Kasich, he's by far the most reasonable sounding candidate of the whole bunch.
BTW, that whole bit about "Obama knowing exactly what he's doing, trying to make America more like world" line is something he's said before numerous times...I wonder if he'll keep repeating that line going foward :oldlol:
