Horrible tonight, proven overrated defender, can't rebound, can't create for himself or others, pretty much just a stretch 4 at this point.

Shame, I remember around 2012 - 2013 I thought this guy had potential to be a top 5 big man in the game, a few years later he is just a solid role player. Should OKC trade him for a wing who can defend and shoot??

Welcome to 2 years ago

He is a better Perkins on offense because he can hit the wideopen jumpers Russ and KD create for him. Cant handle ball, cant pass, no postgame, turns it over, no offensive boards etc.

On defense he isnt even a top 3 player on the team and OKC protects the rim better when KD or Adams are in the paint than Scrubaka. He gets his @zz destroyed man to man by any half decent offensive PF

hes always been a role player always will be. Top 20 PF still a decent player

I remember some fans on an OKC site joking about how this guy is older than his official age. But they weren't totally joking and seriously implying it. Something about how information from the country in africa where he is from can't be trusted.

dude could be closer to 30 than we think right now. seriously.

he used to be a lot better. he can't rebound or finish, and he was never really the most mobile defender. below average player now.

Thinking it over, perhaps he was never that good. I used to think he was a great bigman but now i think the dude got overrated with his flashy blocks.

bad postmoves
clumsy feet
bad man to man defense
falls easily for the pump fake
cant shoot in a defenders face
terrible rebounder

it creates bad matchups.. the man was guarded by livingston.. what a joke lol

The amount of miss rotations he had tonight in defense is unacceptable for such a good shotblocker. Needs to pay more attention on working on that instead of extending his range.

He turned into a spot up shooter with a 14 inch dick.

He's always been overrated. Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki routinely embarrassed Ibaka in the postseason.

He serves little to no purpose anymore. He's been in the league for how many years now and has no semblance of a post game whatsoever. Has not developed himself as a basketball player at all the last 2 or 3 years, he's remained stagnant unless it involves him shooting 3s.

I don't understand why this guy is such a bad rebounder. KD and WB probably averages more rebounds than him

i dont know what happend to him, but he def. regressed from 2011-2013, where he was just a very good 2-way-guy.

but on the other hand: he is playing with WB and KD who both shooting like 20-25 times a game. he has to do the best with what they give him

he was never a great one on one defender, he was a great weakside blocker. in this new era he guards stretch 4's and is out on the perimeter which negates his best defensive attribute. on offense he's very hit or miss with his shot, if he has it going he can easily drop 18 points all from jumpers but it's more likely that he's going to brick them.

he's a good starter and someone worth having on your team but he's not suited to an up-tempo style of play.

and all the bigs who don't have a post game are being exposed by small-ball lineups. I think one day in the future the post game will come back but it probably wont be for a while.

nah dude was never that good. he could jump high and block shots that was about it.

but here's what happened & ibaka never recovered.

Fell in love with his jumper. Can't really defend besides the occasional block.

Serge is fine, but he has to take a back role when RW and KD are so dominant.

Wayyyyyy overrated. I hope OKC plays Adams/Kanter more. Tbh we should move Ibaka for a serviceable SG

He can't do anything besides shoot the wide open shot though. Can't dribble, no post moves, can't create his own shot, can't catch the ball, doesn't get many blocks these days and sucks on help defense. No awareness at all (hence all those blow bys last night).

Always struck me as a guy relying on pure athleticism and not so much actual basketball skill. Had a few strong points to his game, could hit the jumper when left alone to shoot it and block on the weak side. Should be a much better rebounder than he is for his size and strength.

Bosh can handle the ball, drive, make plays for others and is one of the best pickandroll defenders in the league.

Ibaka is a weakside shot blocking role player that can hit the open J. Absolutely nothing more of value

I wasn't really comparing their skill sets. Just pointing out that players are going to do what their teams ask them to do, and eventually it's going to change how they play the develop as players.

Player development is finite. If you tell your PF you need him to be able to shoot 3's, then he's going to have to spend the majority of his time practicing 3's, and the rest of his development will suffer. Actual games account for a lot of a players development as well. So if you ask your PF to stretch the court on offense, and guard the perimeter on defense, then his rebounding and rim protection development will suffer.

One thing I like about player development in Europe is that they practice a lot more than they play. In America, actual games are much more frequent (at all levels), and players develop more of their game during live action. Both development paths have their plus's and minus's, but more team practice definitely leads to more refined skills. That's probably the main reason European Bigs typically posses more impressive technical abilities; they practice more.
