View Full Version : Is Draymond Green the closest we've seen to Barkley?

The guy is listed at 6'7" so he's probably 6'5" 1/2 or 6'6" in reality. He's routinely going against much bigger players, outrebounding them and scoring over them. He gives more of a consistent effort on defense than Chuck did but the way he's able to dominate larger guys reminds me a little bit of Barkley. According to DraftExpress green was measured at 6'5" 3/4 at the combine, so he's probably about an inch taller than Charles Barkley.

nah he's more like this generations Lamar Odom with better defense barkley was way better.

Obviously Barkley was better but Green, like Barkley, is very undersized, height wise, for the power forward position. He's only a little bit taller than Barkley and he's also able to dominate much taller players.

Barkley on offense

A smaller Ben Wallace on defense

Barkley was a low post player, one of the best post scorers ever. Green doesn't play in the post much from what i have seen.

Maybe Zach Randolph could be seen as a poor mans Barkley. He just doesn't have the athleticism Barkley had but is a good post scorer/rebounder.

I just told you who he plays like and you choose to ignore it.I guess being compared to lamar odom is not good enough for you. im out of this thread you got it he's barkley with better defense....

They both are undersized in height, but have large bases, long arms, and are extremely strong.

Barkley is a lot more talented offensively than Dray however but Dray gives 10x the effort on defense than Barkley did.

I see him more as a rich mans LeBron. Better jumpshot, postgame, superior defense. Next Barkley is Julius Randle.

What are you on your period? Chill your sensitive little ass out. I was just countering why I see a comparison to Barkley. Odom was 6'10" or 6'11", that right there makes him very different compared to Draymond.

Draymond is more like Anthony Mason than Barkley.
A modern pace-and-space version of Mase.

So by your standards Porzingis and Shaq both play the same because they have similar height?

His point makes sense in that Draymonds game is similar to Odom, I think more Odom than it is Barkley too unless all you are looking at is being undersized and not how they actually play basketball.

Draymond is 10 times better on Defense, and he has a ring, which Barkley lacks

Plus Barkley wasn't the playmaker Draymond is

At the end of his career, he'll be better than Barkley all-time

The two guys were under sized power forwards....that was the only thing they have in common. So no...Chuck Hayes is a better comp for crying out loud.

Charlotte Hornets Larry Johnson.

Both LJ and Barkler were undersizes PFs with a good handles and court vision and stuff

their playstyles aren't similar and Barkley was a piss poor defender, probably the worst superstar defender of all time.
That's probably why he was never a big difference maker, what he gave on offense, he received on defense.

That is a terrible comp. This comparison makes about as much sense as black people all look alike.

Green is everything Barkley wasn't. An elite defender, a good shooter, a high BBIQ player, hard worker and a great leader. Better playmaker too.

Barkley had a good mid-range shot and could go out to 3 point land, not with any high degree of volume/efficiency that far out but to say he wasn't a good shooter, or not possessing a high IQ, is way off-base. He's also arguably the most talented offensive power forward ever, the gap in their offensive capabilities is massive. Let's see Green in a position of having to carry a franchise before we make such ridiculous comparisons.

Green is Anthony Mason 2.0. (Hornets version).

Barkley is 9th all time in win shares per 48 and 3rd all time in +/-.

People tend to forget how insanely good Chuck was. The man was a freak train of the highest order. Your PF going coast to coast and dunking over the top of legit big dudes. If only he had cared a little more. He was an MVP in a league with Magic, Bird - albeit long over their respective peaks - Jordan, Olajuwon, et cetera. The list goes on and on.

People tend to forget the physical impact that Barkley had on the game. He played with a 'force' in the post and on the boards that made up for any shortcomings on the defensive side. Considering that he was an undersized PF( height-wise) dominating inside against a league full of legit 7 footers, he'd have a field day inside today.

There will never be another Barkley. Period. He may be the most unique player ever.

Dray is the modern day Chris Webber.

Both guys are gritty and undersized, but that's where the similarities end. Barkley was an infinitely better offensive player, and DrayGod is an infinitely better defensive player.

I love DrayGod, but he's no Barkley.

Besides that, the fact one excelled on offense and the other on defense makes this an extremely bizarre comparison

Its easy to concentrate on defense when you are not carrying the load on offense, creating, scoring, rebounding, assiting and playing making etc

Charles lead the Sixers and Suns as the 2nd or best offensive team in the league. From 89 to 93 he was the 2nd best player in the game while Green was and is just a solid or good role player.

This thread was dumb from the beginning and looks even worse now.

Barkley was a force of nature on offense. Green struggles to average double figures. :lol
