This is just silly, 00-04 Kobe pales in comparison to Melo in his prime. Not to mention Melo is also a much better 3 point shooter so he would give more space for Shaq to do work. Peak Kobe is better than peak melo though there is no doubting that. But peak Kobe had some trash teams and didn't really do anything with them until he got Phil back and won a couple when he was already past his peak but had an awesome supporting cast.

Then you gotta throw in the fact that Melo would be playing under the tutelage of phil playing around a winning team with a winning culture and with an ATG like Shaq in his prime. I have to think that he would become an even better player in that culture.
