A Detailed Analysis on Cam Newton's game and why he's overrated

I posted a few days ago how Cam's passer rating was 71.1 under pressure this season, and when he was forced to scramble, he completed only 9 passes for 126 yards, no TDs, one pick, and only 2 passes over 20 yards. The reason he's been so successful is because of the dual threat running game and because he has days to throw in the pocket with max protect, speedy WRs, and his great velocity. Its why he makes some many sick throws down field, yet can't hit a quick out route to save his life. He can't drop back and pick defenses apart all day, he needs a system thats extremely finely tailored to his talents.

So step 1: Stuff the run, Stewart must not get anything. To do that you need mobile interior linemen who can stuff the run and move up and down and take up blockers. Denver had that

Step 2: Stop Cam's runs. To do that you need fast linebackers you stay disciplined and don't overpursue. They don't need to over pursue because their D-line is doing their job.

Step 3: Blitz the s*** out of him so he doesn't have time. To do this you need elite speed rushers off the edges and you need good cover corners who can play man, this way you aren't dropping back 8 guys. The pass-rush shouldn't be 4 on 6, in which case Cam gets all day. You gotta blitz 5-6 on 6 and make it creative, you will get a free man every time, especially if you have Ware and Miller one on one.

Relatively simple formula that requires a specific personnel, but it would expose Cam. And thats what happened.

Seattle didn't blitz enough, neither did Arizona. Both have the coverage skills and Seattle has the pass-rush talent. Their defensive gameplan was severely lacking. if the Patriots were in the superbowl, they would've put up more points obviously but their linebackers wouldn't have been able to keep up with Cam and their D-line aside from Jones would've gotten schooled. Only teams that could beat the Panthers are the Broncos and Seahawks and possibly the Chiefs although the Chiefs might have a hard time.

Another thing that allows cam to do what he does is the fact that he's freakishly athletic and can take hits. The pitfall of running QBs is their injury risk. The Panthers were too arrogant for that. It worked against most teams but he got his ass beat up against the Broncos. You could tell he was in pain before halftime even started. He had no desire to get in the middle of a pile when he fumbled it in his own redzone, he was slow to break out of the huddle, sitting on 1 knee while everyone lined up. This is what ended RG3. Kaepernick tried to become a pocket passer before a potential injury, but that transition failed massively. Wilson tried to be a pocket QB but his protection was so bad and he's such a creative playmaker, that thats kinda still in the process. He's is in the NFL what Manziel was in college. He is clear cut better than Newton and I hope people see that now.

The thing is, he's so physically gifted that this strategy works against most teams, but it won't work against those top defenses. He absolutely needs to improve his defense reading ability, read defenses quicker, be more accurate on short passes, be more cerebral, etc. Dude was never accurate on short passes and still isn't.

His completion percentage on passes 1-10 yards is 64%. Wilson's between 1-10 yards is 70%, Cousins' 76%, Bortles 65%, Big Be 75%, Brady 67%. Bridgewater 68%. I've been harping on this all season long. You can't excuse s***ty throws with "he makes the important big throws"....thats not gonna cut it in the superbowl and against great defenses.

Cam is overrated. And anyone who watches football with any sort of critical eye should be able to see that. Any homers that just watch for big plays and TDs and fantasy s*** will have a very poor eye when it comes to evaluating talent. Dude is a beast, yes, but he's not in that elite QB tier, not near the elite passing tier, he's got a ways to go.

OP is correct. Cam's failure in Super Bowl is analogous to Bran failure in finals.

Chalk it up as another loss you silly little bran supporters.:lol
