Anyone looked into purchasing land on the moon. The "Lunar Embassy" supposedly has rights to selling property on the Moon and Mars through some loophole they exploited in the 1980s. You can buy an acre of land for $20.

Is this a complete joke?

Or could it potentially be a real investment, worth actual money waayyyyy down the road?

You can't own anything in space. There's a universal law that implies this.

And even if you could, you'd probably be long dead before a return could be made on your investment.

You can't own anything in space. There's a universal law that implies this.

Well, in 1980, a very bright, young and handsome Mr. Dennis Hope, went to his local US Governmental Office for claim registries, the San Francisco County Seat, and made a claim for the entire lunar surface, as well as the surface of all the other eight planets of our solar system and their moons (except Earth and the sun). Obviously, he was at first taken for a crackpot, until, 3 supervisors, 2 Floors and 5 hours later, the main supervisor accepted, and registered his claim.

Now, even if you get the claim registered, you are definitely not out of the woods yet. You must inform others. For example, at the same time, the Lunar Embassy was obliged to inform the General Assembly of the United Nations, and the Russian Government in writing of the claim and the legal intent to sell extraterrestrial properties. Now we're still not out of the woods. The US government has several years to contest such a claim. They never did. Neither did the United Nations nor the Russian Government. This allowed Mr. Hope to take the next step and copyright his work with the US Copyright registry office. So, with his claim and Copyright Registration Certificate from the US Government in hand, Mr. Hope became what is probably the largest landowner on the planet today. This is the legal basis by which the Lunar Embassy is selling extraterrestrial properties. For all these reasons, the Lunar Embassy has been able to conduct their business without any reproach from the US Government (or any other) since years, and they are aware that the sale of extraterrestrial Property is ongoing. The kindest reaction of the US Government was actually, that two former Presidents became Moon property owners.

really?

isn't it the other way around; There's no universal law that guarantees it? because there is no universal law

Yeah, it's a novelty gift.

I'm pretty sure the buyers are completely aware of that.

You know when you buy Air Jordans, you don't become Michael Jordan, right? Because it's the exact same level of awareness.

how can u buy something that hasn't been claimed yet? nobody in the world has the authorization to approve claim of a land that is unclaimed. the loophole doesnt even make sense. even if it were a island on earth no government could approve authorization of a claim without it being claimed already.

besides its too good to be true. so many scammers these days :coleman:

You can't buy something that nobody owns. The way international waters are setup globally, I believe other planets would fall under that law. Nobody truly owns international waters so nobody can claim islands in international waters. They belong to no one.

This is straight up scam.

They give you an official deed to your plot of land with specific coordinates. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Lol and the deed is titled "Moon deed" or if you buy land on mars, "Martian Deed"

What if some other living being is living there already? Let's say somehow, some miracle occurs and we can travel to space in 5 years time. You get to your plot of land, find someone already living there. What do you do, flash your deed at them? Gtfo, even if that was all possible your deed will mean jack shit.

The only reason the site in the OP was created is because the creator knew gullible little morons like you would be throwing down cash for a piece of paper (I say moron only because you think this has any meaning and are seriously considering it).

There's a small part of me that wants to believe it.

I'm picturing hearing something on the news 20 years from now about how everyone who bough a plot of land on the moon is now holding something of unbelievable value.

I don't want to say, "Darn, that could have been me!"

With that said, I don't think I'm going to buy one :lol

Maybe I'll get one as a gift for my parents and they can leave it to me in their will so no matter what I'll end up with the land.
