View Full Version : Has LeBron ever had a good supporting cast in the Finals??

Examples of good supporting cast:

Pau Gasol averaging 21/11 on 51% (2010)

Shaq (even though he was a 1st option) averaging 38/17 on 59% (2000)

Pippen averaging 23/8/7 on 48% with elite defense (1990-1993)

Tony Parker averaging 24 points on 56% FG (2007)

Kareem 33 points 14 rebounds on 57% (1980)

Kevin McHale 26 points 9 rebounds 2.5 blocks (1986)

Using this criteria of 'good supporting cast' I don't think LeBron ever had anything close to this.

2011 Wade: 26.5/7/5.2/1.5/1.5 .546 FG% .614 TS%

He lost, even though he was the best player of those Finals

On a second thought...Lebron was the "supporting cast" in 2011

not really. 2011 wade was good, but the pressure tightened up on him when the games got close.

using OP's well thought out criteria for a good supporting cast, it sounds like lebron had one of the greatest :applause:

Lebron has had his hand picked support casts in all of his Finals.

The problem is with lebron himself - his style of play makes his teammates into spot up role players. Maybe stop looking for excuses and look at the real problem.

Lebron also makes his counterparts into FMVP-level players. So not only is he handicapping his own teammates' abilities, he is unleashing his opposing player into MVP level type play, even if they are not stars themselves at the time. Think about that.

Post the seasons and stats

Lets see if you can even get to 3 "good finals supporting casts"

2011 he had great help, Wade played very well
2012 he had good help
2013 he had decent help (in b4 Ray Allen)

'07, '14, & '15 his supporting cast was terrible

07' was the only season where he didn't have a good supporting cast.

Overall, solid analysis, but I think his 2013 help was slightly below average

Wade averaged 19 ppg but he was only good in 2 games (Game 4 and 7)

And Bosh was a complete no-show

Can't label that as decent

OP, he hasnt. Youre new here so its understandable you didnt realize this, but a few of us have actually looked at this and concluded objectively that while he is individually an all-time great finals performer, the surrounding support he gets is generally some of the all-time lowest in value for finals teams.

Hope youre enjoying ISH so far

Ray Allen with 10 a game on 54 54 92 including the shot that mattered, Mike mil 5 a game on 60/60 lots of big shots. Coulda done more if bron gave the ball to him

It's also funny that the OP is focusing on "the Finals" stats, as if Lebron's team get disbanded after the ECF and he has to re-draft a new team for the Finals. Just because Lebron's teams get outclassed by the West Champs doesn't mean Lebron's teammates are not the same players that carried him through the season and Playoffs.

So, Lebron has had excellent teammates through his career. Just because he shrinks and turns his opponent into FMVP players doesn't mean his teammates got replaced by scrubs.

Ronda has such nicely proportioned legs.

You know, when a player as good as Lebron was only a 3rd option during the 2011 finals, nothing can top that stack.

In the 2013 finals Wade was ass for the first 3 games but he averaged 24/6/5/2/2 in games 4-7.

In the 2012 finals he averaged 23/6/5/2/1 and was great defensively. Very underrated finals performance (and season in general).

Wade at times was very good, Bosh was very inconsistent but was playing center which made things harder for him. The role players and Lebron were the main reasons they won 2 championships, I remember Miller/Shane Batt/Chalmers making their 3's and hustling when the Heat needed it the most. Lebron for obvious reasons, but Wade definitely deserves some credit and Bosh wasn't that bad as a 3rd option.

The thing that made the heat so dangerous was they would go on insane runs in the 3rd and 4th quarter, literally blow out the game with no chance of coming back because of their hustle, transition offense and hitting the 3 point shot.
