"So if you ask me from a league standpoint, we would prefer that our All-Stars be distributed around the league rather than having so many All-Stars in one market. But we'll see what happens this summer. I mean, as I've said, there will be unintended consequences from all this additional cap room this summer. I just don't know what those consequences will be."

Can we contract the league to 8 superteams? Make it like the 60s and play at the Warriors pace?

why would they add Durant when they are already a championship team without him and can set records/play at a historic pace with the current team they have? Durant and Russ's ISO JOE ball isn't winning them any rings and the Warriors know that so there is really no reason to worry about him.

Get rid of the cap on max contracts, and stars will never collude. The salary cap increase has nothing to do with stars going to join other teams.

True dat.

Knicks trade Melo for Love, sign Durant in the offseason, and you got this front line:

Zinger
Love
Durant

Defense is a wee bit shaky but it is hoped Love's rebounding and the general length of this group will make up for it.

On the other end you got three guys with mad range and inside out games.

Are those unintended or unexpected consequences? Because it sounds like he's dodging the expected, just that unintended consequences in advance.

Lebron on the Spurs, Durant on the Warriors, one epic matchup will ensue.

Maybe Pau Gasol if he is willing to settle for the MLE. :confusedshrug:

If Kobe can play in the triangle offense then Durant can definitely play in the dubs offense. Curry played a lot of isolation basketball too under Mark Jackson. Durant will easily fit in the dubs system. He isn't a low basketball IQ chucker. He is an efficient assassin like Curry.

The max limit does increase the likelihood of collusion but on that front it works hand in hand with an increase to the cap. Limit how much a single player can be paid but increase there number of guys it can be paid to and the next time Wade, Bosh and Bron decide to divvy up a team's cap space they can invite Melo to join them.

Nah, Gasol ain't playing his butt off at age 35 to settle for the MLE as his final contract as a professional athlete. He's done chasing rings, he'll sign with the team that will offer him the best financial deal.

Maybe but he did settle for way less by signing with the Bulls. He turned down more lucrative offers to contend so the precedence is there.

So LAL and the Knicks can spend unlimited money and that doesn't affect the balance of the League ? The League already had unlimited spending power. Franchises had the ability to offer unlimited amounts to franchise players in smaller markets to offset what they could earn in endorsements in larger ones. Player movement was severely restricted. The result was a lot like RFA. And the League almost went under.

I find this whole "collude" argument amusing. Teams can Collude. They can't talk to players under contract. Players can talk about wanting to play together, it's not the same thing.

Owners gave up player movement and and amount of revenue to save them from themselves . Players used this structure to put themselves in the best position to finish off their careers to see success after they earn their cake. I rather doubt if offered the same options, you would do differently.

Players talking amongst themselves is not collusion under NBA rules.
