Because their defense is actually better when Whiteside doesn't play. Not to mention that he has some temperament issues. They also don't get to deal with his contract - he's obviously going to demand nothing but a max, and they'd get better in the PG department.

Is Whiteside a max contract guy, he can leave this summer, someone will pay him max i believe.

I have no clue why Atlanta would make that deal and Harden and Dragic are a terrible fit. One of them would have to play off the ball. You think Harden is relinquishing his role? Hell no.

He's also best when he gets to dominate the ball, as is Harden. Obviously Harden > Dragic, and with smart subs, you can force it to work, but it's not a really ideal pairing. Defensively, it'd be a terrible backcourt.

Birdman is expiring, so he'd be let go in the summer.

Whiteside is interesting, but you'd have to use your cap space to sign him, as would anybody else. Bringing him back + having Dragic on the roster restricts what you'd be able to do. I don't want to pay Dragic and Brewer a combined like 25% of a $89M cap.

If you move Dwight, you'd be better off not taking on long term salary for a guy in decline and being able to dump your worst contract in Brewer.

You want to get deep into the root of the problems then look at the Rockets offense and how it's geared toward isolation basketball. That's a product of the poor coaching, and if Lawson is on the floor and he isn't creating offense for his teammates what's the point in playing him?

Lawson isn't as explosive of a scorer as Dragic, at least Goran can provide offense with decent defense to boot. Lawson does nothing when paired with Harden, Dragic could at least contribute something.

Phoenix was a poorly ran team that was on the verge of imploding. The Rockets have already imploded and now are on the prow to get better, this offseason we're looking at a new roster and coaching staff.

Because we're getting into the phase of the Harden era where we move slightly away from Moreyball and into a true system'd offense. Bringing in more mediocre shooters who can't create offense is doing nothing but adding gas to the dumpster fire.
